Title: “Wings Of A Butterfly” (Single)
Label: Sire Records
Release Date: 8/2/2005
Genre: Gothic Hard Rock
The band HIM last came at their fan base with the compilation album “And Love Said No…The Greatest Hits” which was such a comprehensive release that I have to say if you are somewhat unschooled about the group you need that item in your collection. You’re probably scratching your head about adding a hits piece of a band that you never heard of to your stash but I think it will help guide you into the band new material which is what this post is about as the Finnish rockers have just released the first single from their upcoming album “Dark Light”. The song is called “(Rip Out) The Wings Of A Butterfly” and I wanted to let you know about it as someone with a few years in on the bands output. Here I go.
“Dark Light” will be the bands fifth album and with this tune are reminding me of some of the sounds I first found myself interested in on their “Razorblade Romance” album. There is a clear difference of course and a pure Gothic Rock power to the riffs of Linde and the vocal melodies of Ville. The lyrical vibe is keeping along the lines of past HIM material and its that of Dark Romanticism and love and death and its overall sacrifice. I expected nothing less. The chorus is a catchy one and I feel if any conventional radio of the day feels like taking a chance that the band could find a nice home on the airwaves. To be honest I don’t hear much HIM at all and this is going to be the fifth record so let’s get moving DJ’s of the nation. Stop playing the same old stuff and be brave once in a while.
“Dark Light” will hit the streets at the end of September and if this is what we are in store for with the album I am going to be a lot more excited than I am right now. Let’s see if another single is dropped before release and if I can put something up here for you to learn about it in advance.
