The Details: The sign on the top of the poster for this tour might as well read “Abandon All Hope Ye Who Enter Here” but since it does not give the audience fair warning about what awaits them once they get inside and into the unearthly Black Metal maw of Watain, I can only say that they should prepare for levels of Hell on Earth. That said, the band just recently released “The Wild Hunt” on Century Media Records and will be bringing their shocking and brutal performance to NYC once again and have In Solitude and Tribulation along as support. Thanks to the fine folks at Livenation, some lucky PiercingMetal fans are going to get to see this show for free.

When and Where: Tuesday October 8th at Irving Plaza (17 Irving Place, NYC)

To Participate: So far I have had readers build me the ultimate Folk Metal band, ultimate Gothenburg Metal band and most recently the ultimate Death Metal band (with our still running Deicide contest). For the Watain one I figured that sticking to this particular premise would be fun and with that I say “Build Me The Ultimate Black Metal” band. Now before you get to work know a couple of restrictions I have on this one. Generally I say that no one who is deceased can be a part of your ultimate lineup, but we have lost many great Black Metal musicians so I will allow your lineup to have one member only who is no longer among us. You’ll need a singer, two guitarists, a bassist, a drummer and even a keyboardist if you choose to go Symphonic. The musicians must be primarily known for Black Metal. Let me know why this lineup works and what their debut album might be called. Remember to put your full name and email address into the comment form but not the comment itself. We will need to reach you if you win. It also never hurts to subscribe to comments for good measure. I will be replying directly to those who have won a ticket. Go get ‘em.

Restrictions: While all PiercingMetal.com contests are open to our regional site readers, Facebook Page likers and Twitter Followers we do look at new responders first in order to give everyone a fair shot at enjoying a show on the provider and us. Of course we still encourage all to participate because you never know just how many tickets we are offering and when that last person might have won. Please note that Guest and Anonymous comments while approved are NOT eligible to win the contest. Lastly since our Deicide contest is still running, if you were marked as w winner for that show you will not win this one. Sorry.

  1. Corvus (Korgonthurus) -Vocals
    Dagon (Inquisition) -Guitar
    BST (Antaeus/Aosoth) -Guitar
    Nag (Tsjuder) -Bass
    M.K. (Katharsis) -Drums

This specific and blasphemous line-up would create the finest and most chaotic black metal in the history of mankind… The perfection of the vocals along with the riffs and drums… Each musician has a unique and certain style to them and with this combination would be pure genius. A possible album name: Void of vvithering souls

    1. Ahh Ray, blasphemous and chaotic is exactly what we felt should be the case with an ultimate Black Metal lineup, so congratulations you have won a ticket for the Watain show on Tuesday 10/8 at Irving Plaza. Please stay tuned to the comments for one from me on how you claim it.

  2. Vocals – Abbath (Immortal)
    Guitar – Ivar Bjørnson (Enslaved)
Guitar – Shatraug (Sargeist, Behexen, etc)
    Drums – Steingrim (Windir)
    Bass – Necrobutcher (Mayhem)

5 of my favorite BM musicians would each bring something unique to the table, especially with Enslaved’s new style I think Ivar’s playing would stand out in the mix greatly. This would be an All-Star lineup that I would travel to the other side of the world to see live.

First album name: The Call of the North

    1. Great selections my Metal friend and we wanted to acknowledge them. However, as a winner of our Deicide competition you do not qualify for this one. Keep watching as we do get numerous “all in” contests and those surely rally the troops.

  3. Jon Nödtveidt (Dissection) – Vocals/Guitars
    Silenoz (Dimmu Borgir) – Guitars
    Peter Theobalds (Akercocke) – Bass
    Inferno ( Behemoth) – Drums
    Righ (Windir) – Keyboards

The few black metal bands that I’m familiar with give me eargasms, Jon from Dissection is honestly one of my favorite BM vocalists/writers. I think Silenoz could’ve complimented his style well if put together and the haunting keyboards of Righ ring in my ears even after the song is finished. Not to mention the thundering of the drums and bass behind it. Album name would probably be “Blackened Souls In Solitude”

    1. I was wondering who was going to pick the late great Jon Nodtveidt and that along makes me say congratulations Mauricio for you have won a ticket to see Watain on 10/8 at Irving Plaza. Please stay tuned to the comments for one from me that will outline the details.

  4. Arthur Æsir (Jotunheim) Vocals/Guitar
    Dagon (Inquisition) Backup Vocals/Guitar
    Brynjard Tristan (Dimmu Burgir) Bassist
    Inferno (Behemoth) Drums
These are all great musicians/entertainers and you can’t go wrong with Brynjard who contributed to some of Dimmu’s best black metal albums For All Tid and Stormblåst. Possible title for album with this lineup “Lucid”

    1. Interesting to see one of our local Metal purveyors added to the mix and a solid other grouping as well so congrats Katerine you have won a ticket to see Watain on 10/8 at Irving Plaza. Please stay tuned to the comments for one from me that lines out the details on how you claim it at the show.

  5. Percussion / vocals – Proscriptor McGovern (Absu)
    Bass – Baron Blood (Necromantia)
Rhythm Guitars – Sanguine Mapsama (Averse Sefira)
    Lead Guitars – Necroslaughter (Varathron)

My main theme within selecting this group of musicians adheres to the fact that they are known occultist, apart from displaying prolific talent on their given instruments. Black metal is often citied a minimalist genre, tremelo picked 5th chords, amongst minor inversions of the scale. Whilst the bassist pounds the tonic root note, as the percussionist rides the snare with your occasional 32nd note fill. A formula replicated relentlessly, hence why so many of my death metal friends find black metal stagnant and that which lacks talent. Often forgetting what makes black metal a credible source of music – composition and its wonder with the occult. Anyone that has heard the above musicians will know they display virtuous skill, from progressive drum tracking, low end reminiscent to a young Cliff Burton, guitars intertwined in melodic intervals consumed by odd rhythms vexed in kabbalistic numerology. And tasteful guitar leads apart from the conventional atonal ones. A group of such caliber would confuse whilst inspiring the craft of instrumentalism. Lyrical content would extend further from “Satanism” and delve in the further reach of the “hidden sciences”.

    Album name: “Ritual of Consecration”

    1. I like your line of thinking Angelous and this is surely a power packed Black Metal lineup that will impress as well as mystify. With that said congratulations as you have won a ticket to see Watain at Irving Plaza on 10/8. Please stay tuned to the comments for one from me with the full details on how to claim it.

  6. Ahhhh she added the late great Quorthon and that alone should find me saying congratulations on winning a ticket to see Watain on 10/8 at Irving Plaza. Please stay tuned to the comments for one from me that lines out all the details.

  7. Bass/Vocals – Tom Angelripper (Sodom)
    Guitar – K.K. Warslut (Destroyer 666)
    Guitar – Shrapnel (ex-Destroyer 666)
    Drums – Stormblast (Infernal War)

I wouldn’t say this is the Ultimate Black Metal band because Bathory has and will always be the Ultimate Black Metal band, but just having Quorthon for everything would be a boring entry. Most of my favorite Black Metal bands would be classified as Black/Thrash, and I feel this lineup would do that genre justice. They would sound very much like Desaster or early Sodom.

    Album: Triumph of Terror

    1. Good stuff Daniel and congratulations you have won a ticket to see Watain at Irving Plaza on 10/8. Please stay tuned to the comments for one from me that lines out the full details on how you claim this.

  8. Seregor (Carach Angren) Vocals
    Helmuth (Belphegor) Guitar
LSK (Hell Militia/Secrets of the moon…) Bass
    Inferno (Behemoth) Drum
    Kaiser (Ad Hominem) Guitar

    1. Interesting selections Maeva and I admit some surprise at Helmuth only offering guitar and not singing. Good stuff for sure so congratulations you have won a ticket for the Watain show on Tuesday 10/8. Please stay tuned to the comments for one from me that lines out the full details on how you claim it at the venue.

  9. Our Watain contest has ended so please no more entries. Congratulations to all of our winners that was some great stuff. On the night of the show go to the venue box office and ask for the Livenation List (there might be a PiercingMetal contest reference as well). Upon showing ID you will get your ticket. Should you have any difficulties please politely ask for an onsite manager and reference that this contest was done in conjunctions with Livenation Marketing. I will be at the show as well so if you see me feel free to say hello – Have fun, this whole set will be exciting.
