The name Jason Newsted rings a bell to many Metal fans based on his working in quite a few different things over the course of his career. He started out with Flotsam and Jetsam, did some work with Voivod and Echobrain and also had an illustrious band that I am sure needs no introduction, the mighty Metallica. Recently the musician has released some brand new music on his new EP which is simply entitled “Metal”. With all this in mind, I am proud to announce that thanks to the marketing team of the Highline Ballroom, some PiercingMetal fans will be able to enjoy this show on the house. Read on.

When and Where: Tuesday May 21st at Highline Ballroom (431 West 16th Street NYC)

To Participate: With such an illustrious Metal resume to his credit, I will simply put out the question of “What do you like most about Jason Newsted as a musician and what about this show interests you the most”. Make it a good one as I will be replying to the winning comments directly. Remember to enter your real full name and an email address in the comment form but not the comment itself so we can reach you. It also helps to subscribe to these comments for the duration so you are aware if you win or not. Restrictions: While all contests are open to our regional site readers, we do look at new responders first in order to give everyone a fair shot at enjoying a show on the provider and us. Of course we still encourage all to respond because you never know just how many tickets we are offering. At present we have a lot of contests running but you just might be lucky based on the overall response.

  1. What I like most about Jason is how he stepped into Metallia at a rough time in there career after the death of Cliff. He knew he had big shoes to fill with the fans and he proved he could do it. What I’m looking for in tomorrows show is to see him on his own as a singer. Knowing the new album is great. Now to see it live.I’m also excited to see if he throws in old songs from former bands.

    1. I left Bill’s great comment in here because it was a good one and he sent a message to the PiercingMetal Facebook about his helping one of the opening bands and no longer needing the contest. Good for you Bill, we shall see you at the show for sure.

  2. what i like about Jason Newsted the most is that he’s the most unique out of the three Metallica bass players. he did have to fill the shoes of Cliff Burton and he came into Metallica at a time where they were becoming the next big thing. he played on some iconic albums. When Jason came in, Metallica skyrocketed to the top and became the massive band they are known today. I’m looking forward to tomorrows show because it’s the first time i get to see a former member of Metallica play live. i love the new EP he put out. to hear those songs and hear some Metallica tunes would be killer. I’ve seen Metallica already, if i see Newsted, then it will be complete for me.

    1. Congratulations Spencer. You have won a ticket to the show on Tuesday. Please watch these comments for the full details on how to claim your prize.

  3. The thing I like about Jason Newsted is his dedication to music. How many people can say they left one of the biggest bands in the entire world to pursue other musical interests? Jason is one of the most passionate musicians in the world of metal. While I’m not crazy about his new solo EP, I can say it at least sounds genuine and could be a starting place for greater things to come. I look forward to seeing Newsted because, I have never seen him live in any setting. Jason also has a stage presence that is matched by only a select few.

    1. That works for me Daniel. You are in for the show. Please stay tuned for the details about how to claim the ticket on Tuesday night.

  4. When Jason left MEtallica, I was very upset as he was my favorite member. He came into Metallica to fill some very big shoes. He didn’t try to “be another Cliff”, he brought his own style to the band. At live shows, he was always performed at 1000 percent. He brought an energy to the shows that you need to see to understand. He also is VERY dedicated to the fans He is ALWAYS at meet and greets. On a personal note, I was once part of a fanclub group gift some of us fans sent him for his birthday right before he left Metallica.. He received it AFTER he left the band . However, after he received it, he sent ME and ALL participants thank you GIFTS…an Echobrain CD, a MEtallica shirt, a thank you letter, and a fanclub magazine personally signed to me. He then REMEMBERED my name when I met him about a year later because of my gift and the gifts he sent to me. The dedication to his music and his fans is why I would like to see him. Also, he is one of the BEST live performers I have ever seen and I miss seeing him perform live. Would love to experience it again.
