Win Tix To See Death To All In NYC On 4/24/2013

Poster - Death To All Tour at Irving Plaza - 2013

The Scoop: The name of Chuck Schuldiner is one of legend in the Metal world for his innovative technique and skillful displays of brutality in his band Death. Formed way back in 1983 by the guitarist, the band paved the way for the still growing Death Metal scene and while not its first provider of mayhem, Chuck is often referred to as “The Father Of Death Metal” based on his incredible contributions. The band released seven studio albums and Chuck also had a group called Control Denied which he helmed after Death’s disbanding and sadly in 2001 we would lose this talented musician who died of pneumonia while at the same time was dealing with brain cancer. His music would never be forgotten and now in 2013 as an event to benefit the Sweet Relief Charity, musicians who had been a part of Deaths rich history will unite and perform in honor of Chuck to bring us the brutality once again. We can thank the folks of Livenation for putting some PiercingMetal fans into the room. Read on for contest details.

When and Where: Wednesday, April 24th at Irving Plaza (17 Irving Place, NYC)

To Participate: Chuck Schuldiner’s influences to the Death Metal sound were great. In your opinion tell me how much importance his input has been to the genre and where it is best defined (band, or single musicians etc). I’ll be picking a few of the most inspiring submissions so it cannot hurt to let me know just how important you felt Chuck was to your own Metal beliefs. Please make sure to enter your full real name and an email address in the comment form (but not the comment itself) since we shall need to reach you if you win. It also never hurts to subscribe to comments for the duration of this contest. Let me have it.

Restrictions: While all contests are open to our regional site readers, we do look at new responders first in order to give everyone a fair shot at enjoying a show on the provider and us. Of course we still encourage all to respond because you never know just how many tickets we are offering. At present we have a lot of contests running but you just might be lucky based on response. Anonymous or Guest submissions while approved are not eligible.

  1. What can be said that has not been said already about the late, great Charles “Evil Chuck” Schuldiner?

He is, in my opinion, the musician that showed the prevision and bravery to not only help create the rules of the death metal sub-genre, he also demonstrated how to break them whether it’s the 1983 Death by Metal demo by a pre-Death band called Mantas to the wail of noise and guttural vocals of Scream Bloody Gore to the early progressive- death metal fusions of Human (my favorite Death album) to the famous 1998 curtain call, The Sound of Perseverance,

If you really think about it, Schuldiner lived and breathed a belief of Leonardo da Vinci: “Art is never finished, only abandoned.”

Not one Death album sounded like the previous or the next one, but they very much correlate to each other.

Side note, I’m going to leave my e-mail address here so I can know whether or not I won the pair of tickets. It’s:

    1. Great viewpoints Ian so congratulations, you have won a single ticket for the show. We were not doing pairs for this one to ensure maximum fan outreach. Please watch these comments for the full details.

  2. Chuck Schuldiner is one of the most influential musicians in the history of metal, period. From his early demos with Mantas to Control Denied’s “Fragile Art of Existence”, Chuck’s name has always been synonymous with true, honest, extreme metal. His band Death was the beginning of the genre of death metal, and was the first band to spark my interest in extreme metal. The Human album in particular is the one that influenced me as a guitarist and songwriter. My playing style is highly influenced by Chuck’s signature guitar soloing technique. His influence on my musical career has been so great that I decided to get Death’s logo tattooed on me. His memory will live forever, even after the tattoo has faded. Support music, not rumors. Let the metal flow. RIP Chuck Schuldiner 5/13/67 – 12/13/01.

    1. Hey that is awesome Tony. I agree with a number of these points but never braved any ink. Congratulations you have won a ticket for the show on Wednesday night. Watch these comments for details on what to do to claim it at the venue.

  3. Chuck is probably the greatest influence in death metal and for the ever changing sound of metal for the years to come. He helped mold it and discover that in between its extreme sound there can also lie musical beauty.!

    1. Yep. One cannot argue that his was a voice that still speaks volumes for the genre. Congratulations Christian, for you have won one of our tickets for the show on Wednesday. Please watch this comment space to see how to claim it.

  4. Chuck is a legend in my mind, standing apart from other musicians with his lyrics, with a unique openness, providing unapologetic insight on a personal level, which sets him apart from other musicians in the genre. I believe his contributions have between invaluable to both individual musicians & bands in the genre and he is missed!

    1. Hear, hear. Well said Jeremy and you have won one of our tickets for the “Death To All” show that is happening this evening at Irving Plaza. Please watch the comments for full details.

  5. Along with Possessed, the progression of the career and music of death paved the way for the death metal movement, as well as its many sub genres that would follow. The influence of Death’s early material can be heard in the music of many of today’s underground acts, while their later opuses inspired a great deal of moderen technical death and even symphonic black metal. Symbolic in particular was a heavy influence in my own playing, with highlights being the brutality of tracks like “Zero Tolerance” and the atmosphere created in “Crystal Mountain.” I didn’t make Death to All last year, so I’m hoping I win for tomorrow. 1. Indeed. Methinks we would have had a far different Death Metal geography if not for Chuck’s input. With that said, congratulations Brandon Lee Meyer, you have claimed my final ticket for this evenings “Death To All” tour. Watch the main comments for the full details.
