Win A Weekend Pass For Anime NYC 2018 (11/16-18/2018)

The Details: Anime NYC is a brand-new convention that is dedicated to the Pop Culture phenomena of Anime, Manga and other related Japanese entertainment. It’s a three-day event that will overwhelm the senses and delight each and every attendee based on the special events, special guests and screenings, available products and scores of incredible cosplay. If you’ve followed the Official PiercingMetal Instagram at all, you know full well that we just love the convention circuit and do our best to support amazing events such as this one. Now, thanks to the fine folks at Leftfield Media, my convention minded Anime friends will have the chance to win a Weekend Pass to the convention (and this means ALL THREE DAYS of it). It’s our first-ever convention giveaway and according to my record keeping, will be the 250th Contest done by the PiercingMetal.com website so that’s rather awesome if I do say so myself. I’ve lined out what I am asking you to do and provided suitable guidelines for this one. Let’s go.

When and Where: November 16th-18th, at Jacob Javits Center, 34th Street and 11th Avenue NYC

To Participate: Here’s what I’d like the interested parties to do. Since this is an Anime themed convention, I am playing along into those lines so be sure to follow closely and complete all the requirements. Trust me its easier than it might sound. I’d recommend that you compose this on a laptop or tablet since sometimes doing these on the mobile phones cause the copy to be lost if you’ve a service interruption. Let’s go.

1. Name three of your very favorite Anime shows or films and just a quick sentence as to why this is the case.
2. Have you cosplayed before? If so, please tell me who you did and embed two costumes in to the replies so we can all see them. Using Instagram is probably the easiest, or a Facebook photo that is publicly shared and viewable. If you’ve never done a cosplay before please tell me who three of your favorite characters to see brought to life by a talented cosplayer.
3. What are your two very favorite characters that you would love to Cosplay as in the future.
4. If you win one of our weekend passes, who will you cosplay as? If you’ve already done this outfit and you didn’t list it in Question #2, please embed a visual. I love seeing all these wonderful designs and the skills that people have making them. If you aren’t cosplaying, what outfits do you hope to see at Anime NYC. Tell me two of them.
5. What comics or manga are you currently reading and recommend? You can mix the two of course.
6. What interests you most about this convention? I’m sure their marketing folks would be interested in this information.

Important Guidelines:
– Enter only enter once. All comments are moderated and will not appear immediately after your submission until staff can review them.
– Number them for ease of knowing if you followed the instructions or not if I’ve asked for a list of items.
– Please enter your full real name in the comment form along with a valid email address that you can be reached at if you win. Please do NOT put this information in the comment itself out of privacy concerns.
– Only enter if you CAN and WILL be able to attend the event and it’s logistically possible for you to do so. Essentially, if you live a couple of hundred miles away we don’t think you’re coming here for an convention in NYC. Especially a three day affair in terms of the badges I am giving away. I don’t want any waste.
– Subscribe to the comments on the contest post and check back to see the responses so you know if you won or not. I am very quick to choose winners once a few have come in.
– Make sure you are entering a NEW comment and not replying to another contestant’s entry as that makes notifying you much more difficult should you be marked as a winner.

Restrictions: This giveaway amounts to my very first Pop Culture convention contest so it’s rather special to me. It will run until a few days before the show or when my supply of giveaway badges has been depleted. Act fast because if you snooze, you lose and I should stress that there are NO PLUS ONES for this giveaway. Friends who wish to come can try their luck at the contest or purchase their own ticket.

If You Win This Contest: These passes will NOT be mailed and instead will be available to pick up onsite on the first day of the convention. Each of you will receive an email from the organizers with the exact details on where you go in the Javits Center so be sure we have your most accessible email to reach you. If you did not receive the email for any reason, you should go to the Show Office located at 2D04 to pick them up. You’ll need proof of identity and if any issues are encountered ask for a show manager and cite this was a collaboration between Leftfield Media and PiercingMetal.com – you should all be fine as names were confirmed. I suggest an early arrival to get the maximum convention experience once you have your weekend pass.

The second anime is princess tutu. This was my first ever anime I’ve watched & the show was magical. I’ve always had an appreciation for swan lake & the music & having an anime based on that ballet with its own little twist got me hooked instantly.

The third anime is one punch man because I mean come on the dude annihilates everything with one punch i dunno I just love that darn show. ?

    5. I am currently reading Deadman wonderland & cardcaptor Sakura (original)

    6. What interests me most about this convention is that it’s not huge & overwhelming but still a good size. Also meeting different photographers & all the anime goodies on the show floor ?

  3. 1. Sailor moon: It is about friendship it also shows girls of all personallys bit most of all it reminds me of being little. I loved Sailor moon as a kid and as an adult I love it more. 1. What’s up Jackie!!! Thanks for the well thought out submission to our Weekend Pass giveaway for the upcoming “Anime NYC” event. Congratulations on being a winner of one of our passes to the convention and remember that this is valid for all three days. I’ll have more pickup information as the event gets closer but you are going to all three days and we love hooking up the cool things to the coolest people. This is going to be some fun time for sure.

  4. 1. I find it very hard to pick favorites when watching anime because I just have so many favorites. Definitely one of my favorites is Future Diary, there is a full cast of compelling characters and an insanely twisted plot line, unlike any other. Another favorite of mine is Death Note, which is cliche to state, but the story is so well-made and the way you grow with the characters sticks with you. If I can only pick three anime, Soul Eater and Full Metal Alchemist are pretty much tied for their deep connections to the characters and multiple twists in the story line.

    2. Its hard to list all of the cosplays that I have done, since I have been cosplaying since 2012. My first cosplay was Bellatrix Lestrange feom Harry Potter, followed by Crona from Soul Eater, and Chii from Chobits. I have also done: Yuno from Future Diary, Sailor Mars from Sailor Moon, Nico Yazawa from Love Live, Mei Misaki from Another, Nana Osaki from Nana, Madoka Kaname from Madoka Magica, Ariel from The Little Mermaid, Emilia from Re:Zero, Touka Kirishima from Tokyo Ghoul, Shiro from Deadman Wonderland, Kaori Miyazono from Your Lie in April, C.C. from Code Geass, Espeon from Pokemon, Mari O’Hara from Love Live, and Honey Senpai from Ouran High School Host Club.

    4. I’ve cosplayed a majority of my favorite characters, but some that I have not that are my favorites are Wicked Lady from Sailor Moon and Nyuu from Elfen Lied.

    6. I will be cosplaying Kaori Miyazono from Your Lie in April on Friday, the Love Colored Ward version of Rin Kagamine from Vocaloid on Saturday, and on Sunday I will be doing Madoka Kaname from Madoka Magica. I have cosplayed Kaori and Madoka before, but am really excited to do Rin for the first time!
    Madoka:

    Rin: https://goo.gl/images/fWLQ6F
    Kaori: https://www.instagram.com/p/BkVXdAiFmV4/?utm_source=ig_share_sheet&igshid=1p1kc62vsb3bi

    8. I am not currently reading any manga or comic books, but if you’ve never read Junji Ito and enjoy horror, I highly recommend his work! I just purchased one of his books, Shiver at NYCC and am stoked to read it.
    9. Last year, Anime NYC was my favorite convention because it had amazing artists, cosplayers, and I made a lot of friends! The arcade was awesome and had great vendors, too!

    1. Felicitations Morgan!!! Thanks for the super duper submission to our “Anime NYC” Contest for a Weekend Pass. I’m replying to say “Congratulations” on being the winner of one of our passes to the convention and remember that this is valid for all three days. Isn’t that excellent? I think so. I’ll have more pickup information as the event gets closer but you are going to the whole shebang so get those cosplays lined up. Stay tuned for the final details soon as I get them.

  5. 1. My number one favorite anime, as cliche as it may seem is Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood. I adore the amount of character development that’s poured into each character. There are so many ups and downs in the show and they let you feel every single emotion that each character is experiencing. Not to mention the amazing plot and execution of it. Second, is Neon Genesis Evangelion, for a lot of the same reasons. I love the Freudian theory that’s intertwined in the characters and plot as a whole. Also, I can heavily relate to Asuka. Third, is Kiznaiver because of how deeply I can relate to the theme of the show and the main character’s emotions.
    2. I cosplay very often, recently I’ve learned to sew and have been fully making the costumes. Two of my best are Asuka Langley Soryu from NGE https://www.instagram.com/p/BZ_Hh3XAlTY/ and Fallen Angel Flonne from Disgaea https://www.instagram.com/p/BopgMQjHyVe/
    3. In the future I would love to cosplay as Haruko Haruhara from Fooly Cooly and Kiss-Shot Acerola-Orion Heart-Under-Blade from the Monogatari series
    4. I have all of my cosplays for anime NYC lined up, Nejire a part of the big three from Boku no Hero Academia, Luka Megurine Love Colored Ward (vocaloid) and Bowsette
    5. I’m currently reading Boku no Hero Academia and I highly recommend it because of the immense spirit from the main character Midoriya. I’m also reading a mix of Junji Ito’s works. I recommend anything by him because there’s no where else you can get the chilling sense of suspense and horror from.
    6. I’m most interested in seeing the work that other people put into bringing their favorite characters to life. Also artist alley, I love supporting small businesses and artists and seeing their efforts and amazing artwork.

    1. Hola Cynthia!!! Thanks for the great submission to our “Anime NYC” Contest for a Weekend Pass. I’m replying to say “Congratulations” on being the winner of one of our passes to the convention and remember that this is valid for all three days. Cool beans right? I’m thinking that you just nodded in agreement. I’ll have more pickup information as the event gets closer but you are going to the whole shebang so get those cosplays lined up. Stay tuned for the final details soon as I get them.

  6. 1. My 3 favorite anime shows/movies are; erased, death note, and My hero academia.
I chose erased because the story was intense and kept me wanting more. For Death note, the concept of the notebook and the twist in the plot had me. As for my hero academia it has great character building, its action and fighting scenes are amazing and well I relate to characters much more.

    2. I have never cosplayed before, I have never learned skills in sewing or in bulding. I am an artist however not as creative as amazing cosplayers, I am a photographer! So as a photographer the three characters I would love to see a talented cosplayer do would be Krang from tmnt in the suit, Dovahkiin from Skyrim and finally frieza from dbz!

    3. I have always wanted to cosplay as wolverine without the xmen suit, probably the flannel wearing logan. The second cosplay I recently would love to do it Bakugou from My hero, but maybe the fantasy version from seasons 2 ending.

    4. If I win I wouldn’t be cosplaying but photographing all the cosplayers! Who I would definitely love to see there is Todoroki with some fire and ice elements, and second Spike Spiegel from cowboy bebop!

    5. Currently reading My Hero Academia which I recommend to anyone even if you haven’t watch the show more reason to read this!

    6. I look forward to a convention that is focused on anime where the panels and special guest are from that world, I love seeing cosplayers and taking there photos because they make it that much more interesting!

    1. Alright Christina, you submitted a super excellent response to our Weekend Pass giveaway for the upcoming “Anime NYC” event. Congratulations on being a winner of one of the passes to the convention and remember that this is valid for all three days. I’ll have more pickup information as the event gets closer but you are going to all three days and we are going to keep you busy with cosplayer photographs for sure.

  7. 1. Name three of your very favorite Anime shows or films and just a quick sentence as to why this is the case.
Mononoke Hime: I made saunwolfgirl my neopets username at the age of 7 after the main character of this movie and 16 years later it’s still the username I use everywhere.
Durarara!!! : Because I made my first real friends vai an anonmyous chatroom based off this series and to this day I’m still friends with them (irl offline).
Cardcaptor Sakura: Because it’s cute as all heck and because it was the first CLAMP anime I watched/read that sent me into my love for all of their series

I’ve only started cosplaying recently but two of my costumes are
Raven from Teen Titans (me on the left): https://www.instagram.com/p/BoqCc6ugYCp/?taken-by=cadmiumcosplay
    Nisha from Borderlands: https://www.instagram.com/p/BaJq-yFjX3W/?taken-by=cadmiumcosplay

    3. What are your two very favorite characters that you would love to Cosplay as in the future.
I definitely have San on my list because she’s been my username namesake for so long it’s a need. I would also like to do Homura from Puella Magi Madoka Magica

I would probably be doing Blake from RWBY (https://www.instagram.com/p/BkMIV-BDRe4/?taken-by=cadmiumcosplay) and Raven again. But maybe the weather would let me take Nisha back out (the leather jacket is too hot and I died the first year I wore it).

    5. What comics or manga are you currently reading and recommend? You can mix the two of course.
I’m up to date with Boku no Hero and I’ve been reading Gokushufudou: The Way of the House Husband (it doesn’t have a lot of chapters and it’s not super mainstream but it is absolutely hilarious and I would highly recommend it)

    6. What interests you most about this convention? I’m sure their marketing folks would be interested in this information.
I’ve been going to NYCC for 10 years now and I’ve kind of gotten tired of how big and crowded the whole thing it. I miss the environment New York Anime Fest use to have and I’ve started going to other smaller conventions and getting to know people so I would be really excited to see some old friends and enjoy the vibe of a new con.

    1. Hails Magdalene!!! Thanks for the cool beans and super thorough submission to our “Anime NYC” Contest for a Weekend Pass.

  8. 1. My three favorite animes are My Hero Academia, Cowboy Bebop and Naruto.
My Hero Academia drew me in with its character developments and the soundtrack is infectious. It’s inspiring because Midoriya is super relatable and starts off as a quirkless “dork” that can be reckless but he’s earnest and determined to better himself and his friends that I grew to lovel. Cowboy Bebop is a classic adventure with great storytelling and a deep sense of humanity. It exposed me to mature topics such as trauma, letting go of the past and possibly looking towards the future as the characters to retained their growth alongside a great soundtrack. And finally, Naruto is a show that is near and dear to my heart because it helped shape me into the anime enthusiast I am today. Naruto is a show apart from DBZ and other Toonami classics that still gets me excited anytime I see merch or figurines related to it.

    2. I haven’t cosplayed before so I would love to see Ingenium from My Hero Academia because I love me some Tenya Iida. Another cosplay that I’d love to see is Saber of Red from Fate or Alphonse from Full Metal Alchemist. I love any cosplay that incorporates armor or jagged shapes.

    3. One of the characters that I would love to cosplay as is Erza Scarlet from Fairy Tail. What I admire about Erza is her diligence and great sense of justice. Not only is she a strong female leader but she is very persistent and takes pride in her guild no matter the circumstances. The versatility in her armor/outfits is reflective of her personality and being able to execute one of her more detailed looks would be an amazing feat in itself. The second character that I would cosplay as is Sailor Mars because she was one of my favorite anime girls growing up. I really like her red sailor outfit and the fact that she represents fire and passion. Cosplaying as her would be great because we’re similar in terms of having long dark hair, loving music, and being kind of stubborn.

    4. One of the cosplays that I’d love to see is Shoto Todoroki with an interesting way to showcase his fire and ice capabilities. Another cosplay I’d enjoy seeing is Skull Kid from Majora’s Mask.

    5. I am currently reading My Hero Academia and I recommend the manga to anyone that watches the show or enjoys a twist on the typical superhero!

    6. What interests me most about Anime NYC is Artist Alley, seeing all of the cosplay and attending the panels. I’m an avid sticker and pin collector in hopes of growing my collection. I’m also interested in Anime NYC’s special events, the Full Metal Alchemist panel and the Fairy Tail panels. It would also be very nice to dive into some nostalgia with the Sailor Moon panel on Sunday.

    1. Hey there Saori, you submitted a super cool beans response to our Weekend Pass giveaway for the upcoming “Anime NYC” event. Congratulations on being a winner of one of the passes to the convention and remember that this is valid for all three days. I’ll have more pickup information as the event gets closer but you are going to all three days and we are going to keep you busy with people to learn about and panels to broaden your scope of interest. Awesome.

  9. 1.Monster – it’s “the fugitive” with the Antichrist for the main villain.

Hellsing – it’s Count Dracula vs vampire nazis.

Dragon Ball – it’s “Journey to the West” mixed with Kung Fu Fighting and a giant dragon.

    2. I have never cosplayed before. Characters that I would like to see brought to life are hei from darker than black, Vincent from Ergo Proxy, and Devil Trigger Dante from Devil May Cry.

    3. Scorpion and Sub-Zero from Mortal Kombat.

    4. I will not be cosplaying. Two Cosplays I want to see are the dirty pair from dirty pair and cobra from space adventure cobra.

    5. I’m currently reading one piece. I would highly recommend it to anyone new to anime/manga.

    6. Everything about the convention interests me. The Cosplay, merchandise, guests, panels, free swag, etc.

    1. You’re in luck David, you submitted a nice succinct response to our Weekend Pass giveaway for the upcoming “Anime NYC” event and this finds me saying “Congratulations” on being a winner of one of the passes to the convention and remember that this is valid for all three days. I’ll have more pickup information when the contest closes but you are going to all three days and that’s a pretty awesome thing in my book.

  10. Alright my friends that brings us to the end of this contest and thanks to all of those who had contributed some awesome submissions. As you’ve seen, all of you have won a weekend pass to the Anime NYC convention and all of your names have been submitted to the event organizers who will be sending you an email with your pass pickup instructions. Remember that you have the ability to be at all three days of the event so I suggest that you arrive early and bring a printout of the letter you received for good measure. I will be at the convention myself but unable to do more than direct you to the show office once we’ve closed this up. I hope to meet all of my winners and take some photos of the ones in cosplay.
