Well, Summer 2014 is practically over and its time for the kids to go back to classes while the rest of us hunker down and be busy at our respective jobs until the next time that we have a nice long weekend to enjoy. That being said, it does not prevent us from digging into the September offerings from Valiant Entertainment. This month there appears to be only a single title starting off so let’s get some more information on “The Death-Defying Doctor Mirage” shall we. Remember that the official premise and creative team information comes from Valiant Entertainment press copy.
The Death-Defying Doctor Mirage: Jen Van Meter (Writer), Roberto De La Torre (Penciler), Travel Foreman (Cover Artist); “Death was just the beginning…” Doctor Mirage talks to the dead…but the only spirit Shan Fong can’t find is that of her late husband, Hwen. Instead, America’s favorite semi-retired paranormal investigator is haunted and raw, using her gift to solve homicides and bring peace to the recently bereaved. But when a big-time occultist with a classified military past hires her for a special job, Shan discovers a lead that might close the greatest mystery she’s ever tackled – how to get Hwen back. Now, Doctor Mirage must enter the undiscovered country and cross all the realms of the underworld, if she has any hope of rescuing the man she loves…or be forever lost beyond the earthly plane.
The Death-Defying Doctor Mirage (Plus Edition): Jen Van Meter, Tim Siedell (Writer), Roberto De La Torre, Stephanie Hans, Raul Allen, Dylan Todd (Penciler), Travel Foreman (Cover Artist); For Valiant’s dedicated pullbox customers, discover the dark world of Dr. Mirage with a special expanded edition of THE DEATH-DEFYING DR. MIRAGE #1 (of 5) – available by pre-order only! Featuring more than 15 pages of material that won’t be collected for the trade, including Jen Van Meter’s map of the worlds beyond our reality; an all-new comic story featuring the adventures of World War II-era occult secret agent; a handbook-style guide to the shadowy citizens, soul-eating beasts, and malevolent demons of the Deadside; and much more!
PiercingMetal Thoughts: I will admit that I only was a casual reader of the original “The Second Life Of Doctor Mirage” and that was primarily because it was done by Bob Layton and Bernard Chang. Solid storylines and art for sure but it seems as though this new version will be offering up some twists and turns that make it a far different experience than the first go round title of 1993. I am willing to give it a go and see how it stands up against some of the other output from Valiant as they continue to expand their universe.
