Good morning my friends and loyal readers, it seems that I must start this snowy NYC Monday on a down note as Keith Flint, lead singer of The Prodigy has passed away at age 49.
The BBC reported this news only a short time ago and its sad confirmation can be found on the bands Twitter feed. While no cause of death was initially cited in the BBC announcement of the news, it’s been noted that the groups founder Liam Howlett had confirmed via his Instagram that his death was a suicide. He is quoted as saying, “The news is true, I can’t believe I’m saying this but our brother Keith took his own life over the weekend.
It is with deepest shock and sadness that we can confirm the death of our brother and best friend Keith Flint. A true pioneer, innovator and legend. He will be forever missed.
We thank you for respecting the privacy of all concerned at this time. pic.twitter.com/nQ3Ictjj7t

Now, truth be told, we don’t really follow the Electronic Music scene here at the Metal Media Command HQ, but its without question that we know the bands most seminal track “Firestarter”. It was the kind of number that one would find played at any genres performance across the PA system and it remains an incendiary, and exciting track to this very day. I’ve embedded the official video for you all to watch Keith in action in better times.
We extend the deepest of condolences to Keith’s family, friends, band mates and worldwide fans at this time as they come to terms with the loss. Thank you Keith for your innovations and accomplishments in this genre of music, you clearly pushed the envelope on what could be done with it, may you Rest In Peace.
