The Original Misfits Reunion Decimates The Denver Riot Fest

And they said it would never happen but last night in Denver, Colorado at a calm little function they call the “Riot Fest” – a bit of music history took place. It was an event that pretty much everyone had given up hope on ever occurring but when the news was announced a few months ago a nervous countdown happened among the fans while thousands scrambled for tickets to see this one act only. I am speaking of none other than the mighty and macabre Misfits whose original members Glenn Danzig, Jerry Only and Doyle Wolfgang von Frankenstein put the differences aside and offered up a reunion performance that will surely go down in history. They were joined by Acey Slade on second guitar and the inimitable Dave Lombardo (formerly of Slayer) on the drums and below the poster you will find a few of the audience recorded clips of the evenings happening.

I didn’t snag too many clips for you and instead will leave the rest up to your own discovery. I did however locate a few of my favorites and am sharing them below. As I watched them I was slavering at the idea of actually being at this event. At least with these we are all flies on the wall and that is better than nothing. Many thanks to those fans who recorded them without too much bopping around. Your dedication to fellow fans is commendable.

The set list ran some “25” numbers and as you can see is stockpiled from beginning to end with Horror Punk goodness. I was quite a latecomer to their music as there was no one offering up suggestions to me about bands as much as I was with my friends back in the day and that was a shame since they were doing the kind of stuff that I loved and singing about a lot of topics that interested me. Science Fiction, Horror and Comic Books – the stuff of my youth. This set list below can be considered a primer for anyone who is just discovering the band based on their age demographic. Historically speaking this was the first show with Glenn Danzig, Jerry Only and Doyle since October 29, 1983. Welcome back to the stage together gentlemen, you’ve been missed in this configuration for sure.

PiercingMetal Thoughts: Since I always close my narratives up like this, I can only add the wish and hope that it’s decided to continue on into a full scale tour with this lineup because I just love what I saw in these clips. They ARE doing this once again at the Riot Fest in Chicago but good luck getting a ticket now that we know what this is going to be like. I cannot make it and it crushes the Metal Media Scribe and Photographer in me just a little bit more. While I mentioned being a bit of a latecomer to the Misfits, I have to say that once I got into them I have really done my best with my “voice” here to keep on supporting them in the incarnation that was heralded by Jerry Only. I always had great times with friends at their shows and am looking forward to more. Let’s get this train rolling and remind the masses about just how influential the Misfits were. What say you readers? Let me know in the comments section below.

  1. Agreed! Hoping that they decide to do a few metro cities in the interest of building their retirement funds. We can only hope!
