Andy Black Announces “The Ghost Of North America” Tour

andy black logo

As the snow continues to fall in NYC, some more Spring/Summer tour stuff is being revealed. We’ve recently learned that singer Andy Black (who most know from the Black Veil Brides) will be embarking on another solo tour with the branding “The Ghost Of North America” Tour. This likely will be tying into the singers comic book story that was discussed last year around NY Comic Con on THIS POST. As I’ve only seen the dates, that and the poster are all I’ve presented.

PiercingMetal Thoughts: The music that Andy does as a solo artist differs greatly from the stuff he does with the Black Veil Brides and I can attest to just how catchy it is. It’s more of a danceable Darkwave vibe and I caught him in concert doing this stuff at the now shuttered Highline Ballroom. With him coming to the Gramercy when this reaches NYC, I will be on point for sure to bring you the story and a whole lot of photos. Sadly I don’t know the opening acts at all but I will be sure to arrive early to see what they are all about. What do you readers think about this tour? Will you be supporting Andy’s solo efforts? Chime in down below.

Greta Van Fleet Performs on “Saturday Night Live” (1/19/2019)

greta van fleet logo

The youthful members of Greta Van Fleet have been making some joyful musical noise over the past year and probably even a bit longer than I’ve known about them. I recently admitted that I missed the initial boat on them but have been doing my best to keep tabs on their happenings. The most recent development in their still burgeoning career is their nomination for a Grammy Award (which was documented along with the rest of the items that interest our readers HERE). Last night the guys performed on the stage for the long-standing sketch comedy series “Saturday Night Live”. Let’s watch.

PiercingMetal Thoughts: I have to admit that I don’t always manage to get around to sharing these kinds of clips but I’d like to do more of them since its not only good for band discussion and of course reaching brand new readers, but its also helpful in being on point with the topical news of the time. I wanted to do this especially with the GVF appearance because I was watching a lot of negative commentary go by on Twitter about the band, their looks and their performance. So let’s give a quick analysis of the performance for those folks who are being armchair critics about it. For the newbs, the band does dress “Hippy” to a degree and that is fine by me. Looking different always made me feel I was at a show and not watching the guy or girl standing next to me up there. There is also a strong love of the flow and vibe of the great Led Zeppelin to their music and this shows in how well they play because Zep is not always easy to emulate. To those folks who are saying that the band isn’t talented at all, here is a healthy dose of STFU, please help yourself to more should you finish the glass.

Though I follow the Rock and Metal scene more than any other sound, I remember tuning in to the show when the big news was the Cardi B return and I watched aghast as she delivered a profanity laced, homophobic leaning bit of Rap belligerence. Maybe the fact that much of it was in Spanish bypassed Middle America but it was there and it made me wonder what the special view of her actually was. Of course, its not my genre of focus and my age range is far older than that crowd so perhaps I just don’t get it. If you like that stuff you can have it, I will stick with my Rock and Metal and be on point to rally the charge of talented newcomers like GVF. Sorry for the soapbox but the negativity just annoyed me so I was compelled to speak. You can let me know what you think down below in the comments and tell me if I am off base here in some sense. Months ago I shared the details about their “March Of The Peaceful Army” World Tour and if you missed that post please click HERE to bring it up on a new tab. I’ll close up now and wish the guys good fortune. Hopefully I will be at their Queens, NY appearance in May as its close to my birthday and that is the best way to celebrate IMHO.

The Press Release:
UMe is celebrating 2018’s Black Friday Record Store Day (November 23) with 10 must-have, limited edition vinyl releases from some of the biggest artists spanning the worlds of rock, reggae, jazz and beyond. This year’s bounty of releases ranges from several vinyl debuts, unique color vinyl pressings, one-of-a-kind picture discs, and specially designed packaging, which in the case of the 45th anniversary edition of Bob Marley and The Wailers’ Catch A Fire resembles a flip-top lighter while Sublime’s Greatest Hits is presented as an oversized matchbook.

Fans of both U2 and Arcade Fire will want to snatch up the double A-side of U2’s classic “Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me” from the Batman Forever soundtrack. The 12-inch LP features a new remaster of the original song on one side, and a remix by St Francis Hotel featuring vocalists Gavin Friday and Arcade Fire’s Régine Chassagne on the other. Chris Cornell’s incredible legacy is honored with a 7-inch of the recently unearthed track “When Bad Does Good” found in Cornell’s archive of recordings, pressed on black and white marble vinyl and backed with a live version of Temple of the Dog’s “Stargazer.” Following on the heels of Record Store Day’s wildly popular colored vinyl edition of Ella Fitzgerald’s Ella At Zardi’s, a completely unreleased live performance captured just 10 days before, will be released as Ella At The Shrine: Prelude To Zardi’s on translucent yellow vinyl.

PiercingMetal Thoughts: Having seen Steel Panther for many years at this point I can honestly say that I still enjoy myself at their shows, even if some of the jokes are the same locker room ones that have been recycled and morphed ever so slightly depending on the situation the band finds themselves in. Yet with that being said the band is clearly NOT for everyone. Today, our world finds itself offended at everything and the slightest affront forces changes upon the masses. No one seems to know how to take a joke anymore and everything, absolutely everything must be totally politically correct. If you are one of those masses who is startled at the slightest cuss word I encourage you to go to a Steel Panther gig and get your comeuppance. If the idea of an over-sexualized stage presentation makes you head to the confessional, then I also encourage you to go to a Steel Panther show for a swat on the keister that you will not soon forget. I’m joking of course and not about the treatment, and instead more about your type hitting one of these rip-roaringly fun shows. If you can’t take a joke, stay at home and yell at people on Facebook. Find your inner Keyboard Warrior, it’s all the rage today. What do the rest of you think about this round of tour dates? Are we partying or what? Chime in down below.
