PiercingMetal Thoughts: The more I read about the 2019 SDCC the sadder I get about not attending. I encourage our diehards to keep us in mind as they wander the floor and mention us as one of their preferred entertainment websites since the more the merrier after all. I don’t have much more to add about this subject and dare I close this post up with a rousing “Go, Go Godzilla!!!!” See you next time.

Toho Animation: “Godzilla: City on the Edge of Battle” Official Trailer

As you know, we’ve been posting trailer items for a few years now and over the last couple of them have expanded to include some of the most popular Anime releases as well. Let’s face it, there are numerous conventions aimed at the stuff so it was good to share with you all and that brings me to our latest item. The fine folks at Toho Animation are at it again and have served up another trailer for a brand-new animated Godzilla film. Set far in the future, here is “Godzilla: City On The Edge Of Battle”.

The Plot: Following their crushing defeat at the hands of Godzilla Earth, Haruo Sakaki and his allies encounter a mysterious aboriginal tribe descended from the humans left behind on Earth 20,000 years ago, and uncover a mechanized city-sized fortress formed from the long-lost anti-Godzilla weapon Mechagodzilla.

PiercingMetal Sees “Shin Godzilla” aka “Godzilla Resurgence” @ AMC Empire 25

“Shin Godzilla” is the latest film featuring the King Of The Monsters and the 31st to feature the famous Kaiju. 29 films came care of the Toho Studios people while two were American made features. You might recall the dismal “Godzilla” with Matthew Broderick from 1998 along with the 2014 reboot of that which was also called “Godzilla”. That wasn’t as bad by comparison. Now I got to see this film a couple of weeks ago at the VIP Screening that was held before the NY Comic Con thanks to Funimation but since it was not opening to the public for a few more days I held back on the personal overview since I knew it would have some spoiler stuff in the narrative. Now that’s its opened and run the course, I can safely do that. Here we go.

Our adventure begins with a sort of Japanese Coast Guard examining an abandoned boat and while they are looking around the vessel, something appears to attack them and while it seems unexplained to the masses back on land, we viewers know in our hearts that its Godzilla giving a first “hello”. We then find ourselves in a conference room in Japan where so much back and forth discussion is given. The film is almost entirely in Japanese (there are some English moments but not many) and as result we have sub-titles to read as it all goes by. Is it a volcano is it an underground earthquake or some kind of explosion are par for the course in the discussion and there is a whole lot of discussion going on. There is almost 20 minutes of straight discourse with not a single piece of destructive action. I tell you my eyes were keeping busy reading all the sub-titles. This film is considered to be a reboot of the classic film that starred Raymond Burr so the people of Japan were seeing the monster for the very first time in these now modern 2016 times. I guess everyone’s Facebook status was pretty troubling to read and their Instagram’s on the terrifying side.

Check The US Trailer For “Shin Godzilla” aka “Godzilla Resurgence”

logo-shin-godzilla-2016

The new film by Toho Studios called “Shin Godzilla” or “Godzilla Resugence” here in the USA has just released the US Trailer for us to enjoy. The film will open in a limited run in October and be shown to some lucky attendees at the upcoming NY Comic Con.  Check it out below and I’ll return with more information about the film afterwards.

About The Film: Shin Godzilla (シン・ゴジラ Shin Gojira?, also known as Godzilla Resurgence) is a 2016 Japanese science fiction kaiju film featuring Godzilla, produced and distributed by Toho. It is the 31st film in the Godzilla franchise, the 29th Godzilla film produced by Toho, and Toho’s third reboot of the franchise. The film is co-directed by Hideaki Anno and Shinji Higuchi, with a screenplay by Anno and visual effects by Higuchi and stars Hiroki Hasegawa, Yutaka Takenouchi, and Satomi Ishihara and reimagines Godzilla’s origins where he emerges in modern Japan for the first time. In December 2014, Toho announced plans for a new domestic Godzilla film. Anno and Higuchi were announced as the film’s directors in March 2015 and principal photography began on September and ended in October with the special effects work following in November that year. Shin Godzilla was released in Japan on July 29, 2016 in IMAX, 4DX, and MX4D to positive reviews and was a box office success, becoming the highest grossing live-action Japanese film for 2016. (thanks Wiki).
