The CW seems unstoppable in their implementing live-action series based on the DC Universe and now with the likes of “Arrow”, “The Flash”, “Legends Of Tomorrow”, “I Zombie” and “Supergirl” under their belt – its time to introduce the viewers to the adventures of “Black Lightning”. The first-look trailer was released the other day and I am presenting it to you below. Take a look and then I’ll return with some thoughts.
Jefferson Pierce, who retired from his superhero persona Black Lightning nine years ago after seeing the effects it had on his family, is forced to become a hero again when the rise of the local gang The One Hundred leads to increased crime and corruption in his community. When I explored the “Star Trek: Mission New York” Convention last year, there were signs all over the Javits Center that broadcast the coming of the next “Star Trek” series, and exclusive program to the CBS All Access offering called “Star Trek: Discovery”. Yesterday, the network released their “first look” trailer and I am sharing it with you below. Take a look.
The Premise: Set roughly ten years before the events of the original Star Trek, the series follows the crew of the USS Discovery as they discover new worlds and civilizations, while exploring the franchise’s signature contemporary themes. The season-long storyline revolves around “an incident and an event in Star Trek history that’s been talked about but never been explored”. PiercingMetal Thoughts: Nope. Very little interest in this one and its likely due to how “meh” that “Legion” ended up leaving me. The other part of this that I don’t care for is all of this disregard for proper continuity just to have a character who is an X-Men or Evil Mutant featured. Thunderbird has been dead for decades as fandom knows and Polaris was an X-Men at one point as well. Also with green hair (unless we get that going forward). I’m at the point where I am pretty tired of other studios having access to the licenses for these properties and just want Marvel to be in control of the whole enchilada. It’s better for the characters and its surely better for the fans. I’m not trying to be mean spirited against some of the obviously fine actors involved, I just one one house for these things. What do you think? Will you be watching this one?
If you’ve been keeping up with the Netflix Original Series based on the Marvel “street-level” superheroes such as Daredevil, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones and Iron Fist, you already know that they were heading in the direction of a combined team-up show called “The Defenders” and now that “Iron Fist” has been binged watched by all the fans, the time has come to prepare for this union and the first official trailer was released only a few short hours ago. Check it out.
The Premise: Set a few months after the events of the second season of Daredevil, and a month after the events of Iron Fist, the vigilantes Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist team up in New York City to fight a common enemy in The Hand. (thanks Wiki).
Cast and Characters (Main and Guest):
Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock/Daredevil
Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones
Mike Colter as Luke Cage
Finn Jones as Danny Rand/Iron Fist
Élodie Yung as Elektra Natchios
Sigourney Weaver as Alexandra
Eka Darville as Malcolm Ducasse
Simone Missick as Misty Knight
Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page
Elden Henson as Foggy Nelson
Carrie-Anne Moss as Jeri Hogarth
Scott Glenn as Stick
Rachael Taylor as Trish Walker
Rosario Dawson as Claire Temple

Stan Lee makes a cameo appearance through an on-set photograph
PiercingMetal Thoughts: Since I’ve really enjoyed all of the Netflix offerings to date I have to say that I am looking forward to this teaming up of all four of them. Now this is even with my initial hesitation about their using the name “The Defenders” since I grew up on the team that consisted of Dr. Strange, The Incredible Hulk, Silver Surfer and The Sub-Mariner. Oddly enough two of those heroes are not even in the Marvel Cinematic Universe of properties but I think I might have preferred their going with “Heroes For Hire” more than anything else. Based on this trailer, the mini-series seems to have everyone that was a side character in it as well which is awesome. “The Defenders” will consist of eight total episodes and will be available for streaming in full on August 18, 2017. Let me know what you think of the trailer down in the comments below and you can learn more about the show’s cast and characters via the official Wikipedia entry.
