Reunions are also a “thing” when it comes to concert tours and I was pleased as the proverbial punch when I saw this announcement. Check it out.

The Press Release:
The BRIAN SETZER ORCHESTRA–led by iconic guitarist, songwriter, vocalist and three-time Grammy-award-winner BRIAN SETZER–have announced their exclusive Black Friday Record Store Day release, which further celebrates the band’s 25th anniversary in 2017. Pressed on neon blue vinyl, the 12″ single LP, 25 LIVE!, features two never-before-released live songs, “Let There Be Rock” (raucous rendition of AC/DC’s classic track) and “Gene & Eddie” (a big bandversion of the Stray Cats song)andwill drop on Friday, November 24 with participating record stores.
“When I wanted to try another musical idea and put BSO together, people just laughed at me,” says BRIAN SETZER, looking back. “It feels like I’ve taken this monumental, impossible task and have been able to do this for 25 years. It’s an incredible feeling.”
Earlier this year (August), THE BRIAN SETZER ORCHESTRA kicked off the celebration of their 25th anniversary in style with an exclusive landmark show at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles. Under the stars at the legendary venue where they’ve performed twice before, SETZER’s trademark guitar work and vocal stylings were matched with his 19-piece orchestra‘s rockin’ big-band horn arrangements, making for an unbeatable combination. Currently, THE BRIAN SETZER ORCHESTRA are gearing up for the launch their 14th annual “Christmas Rocks!” tour. The national tour kicks off November 10 in Minneapolis, MN and will hit 34 cities before wrapping on December 28 in Bellingham, WA. Tickets are on sale now and all dates can be viewed on THIS LINK.
In their 25 years together, the BRIAN SETZER ORCHESTRA have released 14 albums (10 studio and four live). “The music I play in the big band is rock n’ roll with a jazz influence,” says SETZER. “What keeps it fresh is the quality of the players in the band. Also a big part of keeping the big band fresh is the arrangements; writing the arrangement for 18-19 people is like writing a song within a song. It makes the song you might have heard many times sound new again.”
BRIAN SETZER belongs to an elite group of artists who’ve had three super successful phases of his career, from the Stray Cats, to solo albums, to BSO. The BSO show seamlessly encompasses music from all these phases. “It’s all about the set list,” he says. “A good set list has a lot of hills and valleys; it has to go up and down. I like it to kind of cover my career, I like it to start with some Stray Cats, because I love that kind of music with the big band behind it and of course some of the big band stuff that everybody knows, we had quite a few hits. But then I also like to cover some things I haven’t played in a long time.”

PiercingMetal Thoughts: Though I’m not the biggest vinyl collector when compared to my circle of friends, I am super curious to hear how the BSO will be doing this track. Hopefully the also release it as a digital single so I can do a quick review of it for the masses. What about you fine folks? Will you be asking your brick and mortar retailer to hold you a copy for Record Store Day? Speak up down in the comments below.
Though we may be in the heat of the summer, the touring announcements never really stop and this next one will take us from the Fall into the Winter and help celebrate the 25th Anniversary of The Brian Setzer Orchestra. Read down on the full press release below and mark off the dates happening near you. I’ll close out with additional thoughts once that’s all done. Let’s go.

I’ve kept the music that Brian Setzer played with The Stray Cats as one of my guilty pleasure bands since they just bring a good time to life like so few others are able to do. That said, the musician recently unveiled his plans for a full US Tour under the moniker of the “Rockabilly Riot”. Check out the poster, the press copy and the dates down below and then I’ll add some closing thoughts.
The Press Release:
Iconic guitarist, songwriter, vocalist and 3-time Grammy-award-winner BRIAN SETZER will launch his “ROCKABILLY RIOT!” tour Wednesday, June 7 in San Diego, CA, and audiences can expect his rockin’ style and guitar assault to leave them smiling.
Armed with Stray Cats gems like “Rock This Town,'” “Rumble In Brighton” and “Stray Cat Strut” plus other electrifying songs like “Let’s Shake” from his latest solo studio album Rockabilly Riot!: All Original, SETZER will also make stops in Las Vegas, Chicago and Atlantic City, among other cities throughout the U.S., before heading overseas in July.
SETZER’s red hot compadres are Noah Levy on drums, Kevin McKendree on piano/guitar and Mark Winchester on bass. “When you look up rockabilly in the dictionary there is a picture of Mark Winchester,” notes SETZER. “He grew up slapping the bass and is in a class of his own. The relationship with the drummer and the bass player in rockabilly is very unique. The slap bass is a rhythmic sounding instrument, so the drummer has to be very in time with him in order not to sound sloppy. Noah Levy is a very on-the-beat solid drummer, whereas me, as a guitar player, I push everything while they hold it all in place. And when you’re talking about the great rockabilly piano players, it’s a very short list, and Kevin McKendree is on it. And he also plays guitar incredibly well. We all just complement each other.” Continue reading Brian Setzer Announces “Rockabilly Riot” US Tour→
This news broke back on the 19th but I had so many items to post from the San Diego Comic Con International that I couldn’t get to it until now so I hope that some of you will still find it informative. This is of course another tour announcement piece but one for an artist that I’ve only begun discussing here on the website since last year. That’s because The Brian Setzer Orchestra isn’t doing the sort of style that is a usual focus here but after witnessing his SiriusXM subscriber event at the Hard Rock Cafe in Times Square and being blown away by how much fun it was I just had to share the press copy, poster and dates for the 2016 “Christmas Rocks! Tour” by the Brian Setzer Orchestra. Check it out below.
