We’ve been sharing the intelligence secured from the folks behind the scenes at the much vaunted Wacken Open Air Festival (as seen HERE) and while it’s a new month for their side of the fence, its still Halloween over here in the states and what better a day to share news involving their event and the insanity that is Slipknot. Read on.
The Press Release:
Midnight, the witching hour – even more so in the final night of October to the 1st of November, when according to the popular American Halloween tradition all sorts of ghosts, vampires, and other nocturnal creatures are roaming around in seach of sweets and other treats.
There is no better time to announce a true metal monster for the upcoming 31st edition of the Wacken Open Air: SLIPKNOT!
The mask wearing metal maniacs from Des Moines, Iowa have not just evolved into massive chart strikers since their foundation in 1995, but have also earned a justified reputation as a most impressive live act. Anyone who has witnessed the 9-piece band fronted by exceptional vocalist Corey Taylor on stage knows which enormous power their unique baselball bad wielding brand of modern metal can achieve live. Almost one year after the American headliners released their current album “We Are Not Your Kind”, SLIPKNOT will enter the mainstage at the Wacken Open Air – for the first time ever at this festival.
Thomas Jensen comments: “We are thrilled and admittedly a little proud that one of our great musical dreams will finally come true next year, when Slipknot will be on stage for the first time at the Wacken Open Air”, says the festival co-founder and organiser. “We are also glad for this opportunity to state once again that being sold out is never a reason for us to stop working on delivering a great billing. We would like to thank our fans for their continued trust and hope that this announcement will be as great for them as it is for us.”
The following bands have already been announced for the coming 31st edition of the Wacken Open Air in 2020 (in alphabetical order): AMON AMARTH, ANNIHILATOR, AT THE GATES, BEAST IN BLACK, CEMICAN, DEATH ANGEL, DIRKSCHNEIDER, HYPOCRISY, JUDAS PRIEST, KAMPFAR, MERCYFUL FATE, NERVOSA, ORDEN OGAN, OVERKILL, SICK OF IT ALL, SLIPKNOT, SODOM, U.D.O. (mit Bundeswehr Orchester), VENOM, WHILE SHE SLEEPS

PiercingMetal Thoughts: Though its long been a dream of mine, I have never managed to get to the Wacken Open Air Festival but in all honesty if I ever did attended it would be days of endless work since there are so many bands that never come to this side of the Atlantic and I would want that content on the website. In looking at the list of performers I am happy to notice that I have seen “12” of them in concert. The addition of Slipknot is sure going to add to the appeal of the festival and we caught them here in Long Island over the summer at an event that can only be summarized as controlled insanity. If you wanted to check out my overview you can click HERE to see it. Other than that I am going to close this up and ask what you readers think about this addition to the Wacken Open Air festival for 2020. Do you have a ticket for this? If so, please chime in down in the comments section below. See you next time and once more, “Happy Halloween”.
Artist: Slipknot Venue: Northwell Health at Jones Beach Theater (Wantaugh, NY) Opener: Behemoth, Gojira and Volbeat Date: 8/28/2019 Label: Roadrunner Records
The mega-concert event known as “The Knotfest Roadshow” was rumbling through cities of these United States and laying waste to anything that stood in its way. One could not expect anything less from a touring package that brought together bands like Behemoth, Gojira and Volbeat who lead off the day before a crushing/thrilling/energetic set by the one and only Slipknot. The weather report was on the grim side which made the long haul out to Wantaugh in Long Island a bit of a bother as the Northwell Health at Jones Beach Theater venue is an outdoor space but once sufficiently prepped and packed for the adventure I girded myself properly for a sure to be fun time. The show started early, and I mean 5:30 early which was the slot held by Behemoth and there was no way that I was missing them so here is how their set and the rest of the event took place.
Behemoth: Now according to my concert playbook, I have caught Behemoth a few times over the last couple of years and I didn’t mind this at all since I absolutely love what they do on the stage. It was going to be interesting to see the Metal Blade artist in the daylight this afternoon and with their hitting the stage at this early a time if you were stuck in that Long Island traffic you were not going to catch them at all since they were only going to give us about a thirty minute set. After a brief audio playback, the incendiary might that is Behemoth were on the stage and sporting the masks one would see during a full headlining set. Though this was to be a brief performance the band was on fire and quite literally as jets of flame shot from the rear of stage while singer Nergal also brought some out and offered up some homage to the Dark Gods at one point. To say that they crushed would be an understatement and since this was really early the venue was not yet full so far too many people missed a really overpowering set. I cannot wait to catch this band when they headline or co-headline with another superpower in the future. Gojira was coming up next.
