Kylesa Announce Headlining Tour Supporting “Ultraviolet”

Just wanted to share this quick touring announcement from the band Kylesa who will be heading on on a healthy headlining run. Dig into the full press details that we received and mark down the show that is closest to you. Here we go.

The Press Release:
Kylesa kick off their first North American tour in support of Ultraviolet (May 28, Season of Mist) on May 10 in Gainesville, Fla. at the High Dive.

“It’s been a while since we’ve done a headlining tour in the US or Canada,” explained singer/guitar player Laura Pleasants, referring to the near two-year gap since the Savannah band’s last run. “We are looking forward to doing a proper tour supporting Ultraviolet. It will be good to see friends and fans (old and new) and hit these once familiar landscapes again. “

Spin premiered “Quicksand,” a new song from the 11-track album, earlier this week (http://www.spin.com/articles/kylesa-quicksand-ultraviolet-stream) describing the song “joins the melodies of ‘90s shoegaze with the churn of modern sludge.” Ultraviolet pre-orders are available now via Season of Mist’s e-shop (http://e-shop.season-of-mist.com/en/predefined-search/37879).

Mayhem @ Fillmore at Irving Plaza (5/21/2009)

Logo - Mayhem

The True Mayhem was set to appear as headliner for the aptly named “Blackenedfest” with direct support from Sweden’s Black Metal elite Marduk, Cephalic Carnage, Cattle Decapitation and Withered.  As it would come to pass there was some snafu that kept Marduk from being a part of the show so instead we found the expected Cephalic Carnage and Withered along with the surprise addition of Lair Of The Minotaur opening up the tour at NY’s own Fillmore NY.  We shot photos of all bands performing and offered up commentary about the whole evening.

Artist: Mayhem
Venue: The Fillmore NY (New York, NY)
Opener: Marduk, Cephalic Carnage, Cattle Decapitation, Withered
Date: 5/21/2009
Label: Season Of Mist Records

While a holy day of obligation for those that choose to follow the Christian faith, the Metal acolytes that convened inside The Fillmore NY would be celebrating “Descension Thursday” for it was on this particular day that the Blackenedfest would kick off its tour and deliver its insidious assault on any who braved enter the venue. Readers will need to stick with me for a moment and pay attention because while this sinister bill was set to bring together the one and only Mayhem, perhaps the truest of the True Norwegian Black Metal bands in existence along with Marduk, equal demons in the Black Arts from Sweden along with Cephalic Carnage, Cattle Decapitation and Withered – the final product would be far from correct as those who arrived early to see the whole show would learn. Knowing that four solid bands were going to play made me want to arrive early and when I got in I found an unexpected surprise already in play. It seemed as though Lair Of The Minotaur was set up for this show and already delivering a crushing Doomish Black Metal set for the very minimal audience who had also arrived early. My guess was that the true crowd would get there for Marduk and Mayhem and that the larger Metal populace who had tickets had wanted to keep their energies for those two killer bands.

Rotting Christ @ B.B. King Blues Club (1/8/2009)

Artist: Rotting Christ
Venue: B.B. King Blues Club (New York, NY)
Opener: Epicurean & Mantic Ritual
Date: 1/08/2009
Label: Season Of Mist Records

The return of Rotting Christ to New York City would be my first show of the Metal year 2009 and oddly enough it would happen once again at B.B. King Blues Club where the band had played just around the same time last year. That show was pretty much an interesting experience as it found a unique combination of European Black Metal meeting the US brand with a heaping dose of NY Death Metal thrown in for good measure. Tonight the guys in Rotting Christ would be returning to our shores with bands that were not only new to many listeners but also rather new to their recording contracts. This would amount to the newcomers looking to build upon their own craft and audience by hopefully snaring a few of the people who were in attendance for Rotting Christ. The bands were Metal Blade Records and Nuclear Blast Records’ own Epicurean and Mantic Ritual and with only three bands for the full show I was surprised that it was actually going to start as early as it would.

Rotting Christ @ B.B. King Blues Club (2/10/2008)

Rotting Christ were making what appeared to be their first appearance over at B.B. King Blues Club & Grill, and this found them allied with Immolation, Belphegor and Averse Sefira as well. Truly this was a Dark Metal night that was second to none. We made sure to be present for all of the bands and those readers who want to learn more can keep scrolling past the logo to be brought to our article. Photos and comments on all are available for your indulgence.

Presenting the “Lucifer Over America” tour and what a befitting title it would be for an event that brought together two different continents worth of some of the heaviest and most interesting bands that currently are trampling over the fans of the Black Metal scene. The show was to be headlined by Athens’s Greece underground Metal icons Rotting Christ with direct support from New York’s own Immolation and kicking the whole affair off would be Belphegor and Averse Sefira. The amount of talent on this one made the room attendance be at a considerably high amount very early on so no one would miss the crushing levels of darkness that would be hitting them. I went into this one with very limited background on Rotting Christ outside of knowing they are somewhat legendary in the underground scene and are perhaps the first such a band to come out of their region of the world. It was only through samples that I had heard their songs and while listed as a Black Metal act felt they were something far different. Averse Sefira would be the first band up and here is what happened in case you missed it.
