Rock Candy Records Announces Launch Of U.S. Operation

It’s always great to see a press release like this because it speaks about some truly classic pieces of music and the companies that are aiming to get these works into your hands. I’ve known about Rock Candy Records for a few years now, but with their operating out of England it’s not always easy to get our mitts on releases for our own collection and of course to gain your interest in them with a topical review. The words below might change that so dig on in and know that I will return at the close with some additional thoughts.

ROCK CANDY RECORDS ANNOUNCES THE LAUNCH OF U.S. OPERATION WITH 4 NEWLY AVAILABLE COMPACT DISC TITLES SET FOR RELEASE NOVEMBER 18, 2016 – ALBUM PRE-ORDERS AVAILABLE NOW FOR DELUXE DISC RE-RELEASES FROM SAMMY HAGAR, THE NYMPHS, SALTY DOG AND TYKETTO – RED DISTRIBUTION TO DISTRIBUTE ROCK CANDY RECORDS IN NORTH AMERICA

The Press Release:
The times they are a-changing, but luckily there remains one constant: great music will live forever and in the catalogue and reissue world that has never been more relevant. In the land of rock, that’s hard rock, heavy rock, classic rock or, call it what you will rock, no label has won more acclaim and earned respect than Rock Candy Records. Owned and founded by former music journalist and A&R man Derek Oliver, Rock Candy has focused on breathing life into records that deserve a place in the pantheon of rock history.

Operating out of London, England for the last eight years, the label specialises in revisiting some of the most important and significant records from the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s. From Ted Nugent to Rick Springfield, by way of Quiet Riot, Dokken, Billy Squier, Toto, Ratt, R.E.O. Speedwagon, L.A. Guns, Ace Frehley, Hanoi Rocks, and Kansas, the label has re-activated some of the greatest records of the last forty years, buffing them up, and re-positioning them as 24 Karat diamonds. To date, Rock Candy has re-released over 300 titles in Europe.

“Behind The Player” by Ace Frehley

Artist: Ace Frehley
Title: “Behind The Player”
Label: Red Distribution
Release Date: 1/19/2010
Genre: Hard Rock
Rating: 4/5

Fans of the Space Ace will definitely love what is going on with this “Behind The Player” DVD by Interactive Music Video because it gives you an inside look into the playing and thought processes of the one and only Ace Frehley. This is one “episode” so to speak of a multi-volume set of similar releases and as I watched it, I was reminded of the drum instruction videos I used to love when I was actively pursuing music many years ago. The video begins with Ace Frehley sitting in a rehearsal studio and lining out his humble beginnings as a musician and how he eventually landed the gig in KISS. He brings up his original departure from the lineup and talked about his solo years before he once again donned the signature face paint and embarked on the reunion tour to end all reunion tours. We even learn why he decided to move on from the band once again and he briefly touches upon his addictions and proudly informs the home viewer of his sobriety which at the time of the filming had reached three years. There was not too much in this part of the film that I didn’t know already as a lifelong KISS fan, but it is great to hear it from Ace as opposed to Gene and Paul who always seem to hog the screen time when such disclosure is happening. One of the main parts I found of interest was Ace describing how he first came up with the smoking guitar idea and then the lighted ones and rocket launching ones. Viewers should be aware that stuff like this was not done in concert until Ace came up with it for the KISS shows. That’s pretty wild when you think about it.

“OCC Rocks” by Various Artists

Artist: Various Artists
Title: “OCC Rocks”
Label: Red Distribution
Release Date: 10/26/2009
Genre: Rock
Rating: 3.75/5

I’ve always loved the idea of chopper motorcycles and their inherent coolness factor and yet while I have only been on a motorcycle once in my life, I can still easily understand how a show about building them has found so much popularity. We are of course talking about The Discovery Channel’s program “American Chopper” and the premise is not only about building motorcycles and the family business so to speak but deep inside we learn regularly how hard work, creativity and mechanical knowledge can work hand in hand with extraordinary results. That factor alone should serve as nothing less than inspiring to many groups of people who have passions and pursuits of their own. The CD “OCC Rocks” or “Orange County Choppers Rocks” is a compilation release that finds hand-picked Classic Rock and Southern Rock greats which are all favorites of the shows leading man Paul Teutul Sr. It’s a collection of tunes that are nothing less than “driving material” for those that already own bikes, but in all honesty can be properly used for freeway car adventuring as well and even for someone who is a runner that needs music that can keep a solid pace from beginning to end with them. The CD features not only some of the greatest Rock tunes in history but also showcases the OCC Band on three tracks. This is a group that is made up of the members of the OCC Company itself. Let’s talk about the venerated greats first because there’s really some smoking tunes brought to light once again and that is a very good thing.
