Sepultura are considered one of the most powerful forces for Metal and when you speak their name in their native land of Brazil they are considered as Gods. Their appeal to legions of Metal fans has wavered a little since lead singer Max Cavalera had left to form Soulfly. In his place the American Derrick Green continues to lead the band in a full assault charge. His sound is different from Max’s and leans to a more Hard Core style than the Thrashing that Max was bringing to the table. Musically Andreas Kisser, Igor Cavalera and Paulo Xisto sound pretty good on the album but clearly the drums and vocals seemed to be mixed a little louder on the piece. The group storms through 21 numbers and to make this a little more worth paying attention to bring out a former guitarist Jairo Guedz to jam on a few numbers. Alex from Krisiun also makes an appearance and there are some others as well. For a CD with most of its talking in Portuguese it gets a little confusing with what’s going on, but that is where owning the DVD is a good idea. Yes you read this correctly for a DVD of this concert was also issued in tandem to the CD.

Released at the same time as the CD bearing the same name comes the live concert DVD from Sepultura. The Metal legends seem to pull out all of the stops to give you the best possible DVD concert that they can. As everyone knows the band no longer features Max Cavalera and instead showcases the talents of American singer Derrick Green. His different vocal register gives a little bit of difference to the older material and brings new life to the direction the band is following with him at the helm. The CD of this concert is more for the diehard purist who will enjoy it no matter what while the DVD will have a larger level of appeal. I admit I went into the release with only a fair amount of knowledge of Sepultura music for while I was hard core into the Metal they were just never a band I followed. The concert DVD comes in two parts with the first being the full show that is on the CD and a couple of bonus clips to close it out. The performance is enhanced for the crazed Brazilian audience by bringing out special guests during the show including Jairo Guedz, Alex Kolesne, Zé Gonzáles, B- Negao, & João Gordo. Given these guests included a former member of the band and someone from Krisiun you can imagine that they went over very well in the eyes of the crowd. I felt that Sepultura did a good job on this piece even though a lot of shots are on the dark side. This is the fault of the stage lighting used and not the band themselves. The vocals are mostly hard core in nature and growls the main focus through the songs that cover every album that the band has released.
