By now you are all pretty much aware that the band Ghost is one that is shrouded in mystery and in some sense a bit of smoke and mirrors. Having grown up on the likes of KISS as a band of initially masked collaborators, I really like this idea of not really knowing who is involved in the project. I also consider this news a bit of a birthday present (because its coming to light on my birthday today). Let’s take a look.
PiercingMetal Thoughts: Wow! This is the kind of hype that I enjoy and I look forward to seeing just how this story unfolds. I’ve only caught Ghost in concert once as you are reading this and completely missed out on enjoying Papa I on the stage before he was replaced by Papa II. I liked him and will miss his presence in the band but let’s see what Papa Emeritus III will be bringing to the table. I’ve got nothing else to add to this installment but will make sure to add some Amazon.com codes for you below so you can pre-order the new music and pick up copies of the older works in the event that you don’t have them. Until the Clergy meets once again….I remain……
The Details: The band is shrouded in mystery and fronted by the sinister presence known as Papa Emeritus II and their shows are more along the lines of “rituals” than a simple concert appearance and now the band is bringing this ominous event to the beautiful Best Buy Theater. They’ll be bringing along King Dude as support and thanks to the marketing wizards at AEG, PiercingMetal is going to put a couple of lucky fans into the sure to be sold out show. I’m excited because this is also my first time seeing the band and I’m ready to be among the converted during “Tour Zero Year 2014”. Read on. The band Ghost is one of the most mysterious of the Hard Rock acts currently on the circuit today and their brand new album is entitled “Infestissumam”. They’ve recently unveiled the video for one of its tracks called “Year Zero” and the song is awesome but this clip is NSFW which means “Not Safe For Work” so don’t be opening this up at the office or in school since there is a little bit of nudity involved. I think I’d steer clear of this one if you are under 18 years of age as well but that’s just me being older and occasionally responsible.
About The Video: The video shows a group of women awaiting some sort of important visitor for a gathering and when the ominous gent arrives for dinner of raw steak, wine and grapes (which are all fed to him) the admiration is in high gear. This is obviously Papa Emeritus II (the bands second lead singer) but he is not in his skull faced visage at the time). He leaves and the women disrobe so that’s the NSFW part and they transform into The Nameless Ghouls and he eventually into Papa II. There you go.
PiercingMetal Thoughts: Since I’ve only seen Ghost on videos before thanks to YouTube.com I had to say that I was super curious about the clip. It’s a weird one and somewhat creepy with the interaction between the women and the Papa figure. The song has a very Satanic essence to it but that is pretty much the vibe of this band in the first place. I love the track and can say that some of the visuals are off-putting but that is probably exactly what Ghost wanted to leave you with. My hope is to catch them on the tour supporting this album so let’s see what happens. What did you readers think of this clip? Let me know in the comments below.

It wasn’t long ago that I offered up some thoughts on the debut single “Secular Haze” from the upcoming Ghost B.C. album “Infestissumam” which you can find HERE. I didn’t love or hate the track per se but was glad to get some time to absorb the second single “Year Zero” which I am loving quite a bit. This tune was also free and in order to hear it before the full release, the fans had to use Facebook to nominate their new singer Papa Emeritus II as the new Pope for the Roman Catholic Church. He didn’t win the vote of course but the fans still got and advance listen to what I feel is a fantastic track. “Year Zero” begins with a choir that names numerous demonic entities and that is an intense way to start. It takes a moment or two to realize that is what they are saying but they are. The riff on this one is almost hypnotic and with its steady pace draws you into the melodies quite well. When Papa II begins to sing his tale of how insignificant man is in the greater scheme of things it just brings you deeper into their mire. Continue reading “Year Zero” (Single) by Ghost→
