Win A Ticket To See Dead Cross @ The Warsaw On 9/13/2017

The Details: I don’t usually want to do two contests in a row and let alone for events that are in direct competition with each other but when the Powers That Be offer you some true coolness you learn to roll with the waves. Oddly enough, I had only first heard the name “DEAD CROSS” very recently and didn’t actually look into it at all. I assumed it was a brand new Black Metal band that I would get around to seeing on a package sometime soon. Imagine my surprise when I learned it was not only a new effort by the great Mike Patton of Faith No More but also a group that featured the drumming might of Dave Lombardo (that dude who was formerly in Slayer). The band will be playing two shows in our region with one at the now famous Gramercy Theatre and also the following day at The Warsaw which is the venue that this contest is for. Thought we’ve never been there before to cover a show this will effectively be our very first giveaway at this venue. It’s pretty exciting to say the least and thanks to the fine folks in the Marketing division, we are going to put a couple of lucky fans into the show on the house. That lets you have more money for merchandise which is never a bad thing. Check out the details on how to participate.

When and Where: Wednesday, September 13th @ The Warsaw (Brooklyn, NYC)

To Participate: I’ve decided to keep this an easy one and by saying that I mean I will be sticking to my usual formula of you readers giving me “3” things that you like most about the band if you have heard them already and if you are a newbie just give me “3” things that you are most interested in about their performance. Perhaps there are albums that “spoke” to you or concert appearances that sent you to the music shop to snag some of the band members earlier works. Just give me three solid answers and how important it is to be at this show. I know I make you work but I work here too so whining will not win out at all LOL. Make this good reading because the stuff remains on the website and can likely inspire new fans as well on how our freebies work. Writing “because they slay dude” is just too un-original and boring. I’ll be responding to the comments that I like most right below their answer. Kindly review some guidelines before entering your submission. We don’t have a lot of tickets for this one. Also there is no need to remind me that this is a brand new band. I am well aware of that so the interested should line out their hopes and interests in this project in some fashion.

Faith No More @ Webster Hall (5/14/2015)

Logo - Faith No More

Artist: Faith No More
Venue: Webster Hall (New York, NY)
Opener: Les Butcherettes
Date: 5/14/2015
Label: Ipecac Records

Before getting into this report I wanted to cite some recollections that I had about the band Faith No More in my own musically interested life. The first and probably most important recollection is that the very first time that I heard them was on one of those local radio programs that used to be a lot more prevalent back in the day. There was a show on the WNYE airwaves that was stationed down in Brooklyn Heights near where I was going to college and on the program “Metal In Your Face”, the show host “Rebel” used to play all kinds of awesome stuff that was often ahead of the conventional Heavy Rock and Metal listener’s normal channels. It was there that I got my first copy of “The Real Thing” based on a friendship I had built with the host and this was on cassette since CD’s were not really often stuff that was given away. These were also the days when vinyl still ruled the roost. I played this cassette to death and when the band announced a show at the once legendary L’Amour club I knew I had to get myself in there. I remember that a friend and I had just enough money for the ticket and car service or the ticket and some beers. We would opt for the ticket and a case of beers and a lengthy walk to the club. Needless to say we arrived feeling no pain but recalling a very excellent performance by a still new to our side of the ocean Faith No More whose album was still rather new as well. Good times.

“You Fat B**tards” & “Who Cares A Lot” by Faith No More

Artist: Faith No More
Title: “You Fat B**tards” & “Who Cares A Lot”
Label: Rhino Records
Release Date: 5/23/2006
Genre: Hard Rock
Rating: 8/10

Faith No More was a breath of fresh air from the Hair Metal that had gotten out of hand during the tail end of the 80’s. They were also a band that seemed far more ahead of its time from the coming Grunge movement that would follow soon after. Mixing Hard Rock with Rap and Funk styling to a positive effect along with tasty melodies Faith No More quickly found themselves on both mainstream radio catering to Rock as well as the popular still showing videos MTV. Musically it was a very different time and the people who clamored for some level of difference found themselves enjoying what Faith No More was bringing to the table. Yet despite all this attention others would miss the point entirely. It was a very intense form of Rock, and when the group released “The Real Thing” they showed that boundaries could be crossed with some level of success and be done well. The double feature DVD release of “You Fat Bastards, Live At The Brixton Academy” is the perfect addition for your music collection for not only do you get a great concert performance, but you are also treated to a second DVD that collects all the bands videos. Older fans will remember a few of them, especially “Epic” with the struggling fish out of water at the end which caused quite a stir in the world of animal activism. Lead singer Mike Patton is also a character and fun to watch during most of these video segments. The films are interlaced with footage culled from the times of the release which works very well and probably would never have been seen again if not used in this fashion. The title of this DVD is “Who Cares A Lot? The Greatest Videos”.
