Music biopics are things that are riding high at the moment if you can count the success of the recent “Bohemian Rhapsody” film and the unnerving revelations of “Lords Of Chaos” as a part of the puzzle but as far as documentaries about the music that stick with people for long afterward and become constant topics of conversation, the number is limited for sure. The documentary “Murder In The Front Row” takes its name from the part of the song by Bay Area Thrashers Exodus from the song “Bonded By Blood” and will bring the audience back to the days were on any night of the week a live music craving Metalhead would be able to see the likes of Metallica, Slayer, Exodus, Possessed and even New York’s Anthrax in small clubs as a new music scene was building. The trailer for the documentary was just recently revealed so let’s watch it right now. I recommend holding back on any circle pit activity and stage diving until you have completed for your own safety and for that of your preferred devices.
About The Film: “Murder In The Front Row: The San Francisco Bay Area Thrash Metal Story”. In the early 1980’s, a small group of dedicated Bay Area headbangers shunned the hard rock of MTV and Hollywood hairspray bands in favor of a more dangerous brand of metal that became known as thrash! From the tape trading network to the clubs to the record stores and fanzines, director Adam Dubin reveals how the scene nurtured the music and the music spawned a movement. “Murder In The Front Row” is told through powerful first person testimony and stunning animation and photography. The film is a social study of a group of young people defying the odds and building something essential for themselves. Featuring interviews with Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Anthrax, Exodus, Testament, Death Angel, Possessed and many more! Narrated by Brian Posehn. (c/o Official YouTube Channel). Metallica fans will want to get their credit cards out and have them ready to order up a copy of this brand-new live, acoustic album. The proceeds are going to a charity of the bands choosing and you can see more about this down below the cover art.
Hey Collectors! Have I got some cool news for you but first I have to ask if you remember when I showcased the Funko Pop! Rocks collection featuring the mighty Metallica? If you don’t that is fine by me, just click HERE to see that post and also find some links to purchase points so you can secure them for your collection. Yesterday, the band Tweeted that Lady Justice, who stands on the cover of their “And Justice For All” album will be getting a Funko Pop! of her own. If you are a Metallica completist you’re going to want this for sure. Take a look at the tweet.
Here’s an interesting thing to do for fans of Metallica and photography. Check it out.
Photography duo HERRING & HERRING, a.k.a Dimitri Scheblanov, a 2005 graduate of The Cooper Union’s School of Art, and Jesper Carlsen, will be in conversation with Metallica’s Lars Ulrich to discuss their collaborative work together, the process of creating art, and more. Since their first shoot with Lars in 2014, HERRING & HERRING have photographed Metallica on multiple occasions, most notably for their 2016 platinum selling album Hardwired… To Self Destruct, providing photography and creative direction for the album cover art, as well as directing music videos, shooting band portraits and capturing their live shows.
The event is free and open to the public. General public should reserve a space here. Please note seating is on a first come basis; an RSVP does not guarantee admission as we generally overbook to ensure a full house.
