Marvel Comics First Issues Coming In September 2016

Happy September once again my dear readers. It’s time for the Marvel Comics side of my monthly announcements and this month there aren’t really a whole lot of new launching titles outside of a couple of annuals and a single Captain America one-shot. Let’s take a look. As always the art and premise comes from their press resources and I will return at the close with some thoughts.

"Captain America: Serpents Unite" #1
“Captain America: Serpents Unite” #1

CAPTAIN AMERICA: SERPENTS UNITE! #1: Slithering super villains, it’s a syndicate of snake-themed sinners! The sinister Sidewinder amasses an army of ophidian offenders — including Cottonmouth, Diamondback and Princess Python — for his mercenary Serpent Society! In Captain America’s first brush with the team, he’ll land in the arms of Anaconda! But whose side will he take when the Society targets M.O.D.O.K. for death? Look back at the Society’s original incarnation as Cap and the Falcon contend with the Serpent Squad! Collecting CAPTAIN AMERICA (1968) #163, #310, #313 and #315.

Marvel’s Cosplay Variants Return w New Covers/New Characters

I’ve long admired the skills that so many of the Cosplayers that I’ve encountered at the New York Comic Con and other conventions showcase to the world with their awesome representations of great heroes and villains. Now it seems like the folks over at the House Of Ideas are revisiting their “Cosplay Variant Covers” initiative and giving us “14” new covers and characters. Let’s take a look at the full press release and these awesome images.

The Press Release:
Cosplay is taking over again this fall! Following last year’s wildly successful round of variant covers, Marvel is excited to bring an entirely new wave of MARVEL: COSPLAY VARIANTS to select comics throughout September and October! Featuring new costumes, new cosplayers, and new characters – these mighty Marvel fans are brining your favorite super heroes to life across nearly 15 different titles!

“The response to our first set of COSPLAY VARIANTS was so incredible, we simply had to do a second wave,” says Axel Alonso, Marvel Editor-in-Chief. “And, of course, we were able to find a great crop of cosplayers with some truly fantastic costumes. We’re thrilled to shine a spotlight on an ever-growing community that continues to show love for us and our characters.”

“Champions” #1

Eisner Award winning writer Mark Waid and Eisner Award nominated artist Humberto Ramos join forces to bring you a brand new super team for a brand new era. A teen team supreme that refuses to adhere to the outdated ways of old and is ready to change the world on their own terms. It’s time to be heroes again, and Ms. Marvel, Miles Morales, Nova, Viv Vision, Cyclops and the Totally Awesome Hulk are striking out on their own to make a new future. Not Avengers. Not Defenders. They are – Champions!

“To their mind – the reputation of super heroes has taken a very public beating and they’re very intent on proving to the world that super heroes still have value and still have relevance,” says writer Mark Waid in an interview with Marvel.com.

It doesn’t take a Tony Stark or Captain America to make a difference. All it takes is six young heroes and you can change the world. A new day is dawning – and these six are just getting started! Be there for their first outing as Marvel NOW! shifts into high gear in CHAMPIONS #1 – coming to comic shops and digital devices everywhere on October 5th!

PiercingMetal Thoughts: As I shared in my post about the team in the “Change The World” posting, I am eager to see what kind of action this new version of The Champions will be like in terms of storytelling. Despite it being a very maligned and off-kilter team way back in the seventies, I did like The Champions back then. It might have been my youthful naivete but who knows now in this 2016 year what I was thinking at the time. Anyway, what do you think of all the variant covers and the preview pages that I’ve shared below. Let me know down in the comments if you think that this title will be of interest to you. See you next time around.

Marvel Comics Says “Change The World” w The Champions

Hey my comic book loving friends. It seems that there is a new superhero team coming by way of the all-new “Champions” and the fine folks at Marvel Comics have begun to unveil these Character Posters that feature the team. What I am going to do with this notice is add any of the new images to this single post as the hectic nature of the site right now I cannot devote a single post for each of them. Let’s start with the first one and then I’ll add them in accordingly. Once done I will order them by name for ease of perusal. Enjoy.

Marvel Comics First Issues Coming In August 2016

Let’s get into the Marvel Comics offerings while we are at the Comic Book Solicitations time of the month. It’s always a fun way to start our coverage for me since I’m a pretty active reader here at the Metal Command HQ. As usual I am presenting the first issue offerings only and not the concurrently running titles. Cover art and premise comes care of the provided stuff from Marvel Entertainment PR and I’ll close up with some additional opinion on them at the close. Here we go.

"Civil War II: Ulysses" #1

CIVIL WAR II: ULYSSES #1 (OF 3) A CIVIL WAR II PREQUEL! How did Ulysses join the Inhumans? What difficult journey did he have to go through to master his powers?

“Marvel Tsum Tsum” #1

MARVEL TSUM TSUM #1 (of 4): In case you’ve been living under a rock, Tsum Tsums are HUGE! Well, not LITERALLY (they’re actually pretty tiny) but these seemingly cute and cuddly creatures are sweeping the globe! So what happens when these pint-sized piles of fur find their way into the Marvel Universe? After a crate of them falls to Earth en route to THE COLLECTOR, one small group of Brooklyn teenagers will find out!
