“Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)” (Single) by Edge Of Paradise

Holiday - Edge Of Paradise - 2014

Artist: Edge Of Paradise
Title: “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)”
Label: Pure Steel Records
Release Date: 12/20/2014
Genre: Holiday Metal
Rating: 4/5

I’ve been enjoying the musical output from the band The Edge Of Paradise for a couple of years now and with the Christmas holiday drawing ever so closer, I was happy to learn that the group had worked out their own holiday track that was available to anyone that wanted it for free. This seasonally inspired rocker finds the band offering up their own unique take on the classic tune “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)” that was originally performed by Darlene Love. The song was actually penned by Phil Spector with plans on it being sung by Ronnie but when it all came down to it, Darlene shined like the star that guided the Three Wise Men to Bethlehem. Guitarist Dave Bates starts it off with a tasty blues-inspired vibe before it kicks into gear and lets the lovely Margarita Monet treat us to her soaring vocal register as she pleads for a loved one’s return to her for the holiday season. There is a driving rhythm care of John and Nick and in some sense found me thinking that it stood nicely as homage to the original and merited inclusion on a Holiday Metal Playlist that features Stryper’s “Winter Wonderland” and even Twisted Sisters “Oh Come All Ye Faithful”. Not long after the first spin of the tune I found myself air-drumming and bopping while also offering up some harmony singing along. The cats didn’t seem to mind. I should add that I really liked the lead guitar break that Bates provided and at times I felt there might have even been some keyboard but perhaps this was just some nice guitar effect.

New Year’s Music Resolutions for 2014: Chapter 1

Hey there my Metal Legions and let me once again wish you a very “Happy New Year 2014” if you didn’t see my “first day” message a couple of days ago. It’s my pleasure to welcome you all to our third year of our series “New Year’s Music Resolutions”. As the site has picked many new readers in 2013, I’ll let them know that this series asks a number of musicians who were asked to participate what their music resolution would be for the year and its always a lot of fun unveiling their plans to you all. For this years series I waited until we were inside the New Year to begin the narratives as opposed to running just after Christmas. That said here is the first chapter. Enjoy.

1. Acey Slade (Solo/Trashlight Vision/Dark Party/Joan Jett): ‘I have, easily, 2 albums worth of material written and maybe 1 more albums worth of 1/2 finished ideas. One of the reasons I haven’t entered the studio was because I was watching what format music listeners are purchasing music on. Sadly the answer that I have seen over the past year is that most music listeners are just not buying music period. Most. Not all. I have some pretty awesome fans and I think I have formulated a plan that will see me in the studio in 2014 doing an album of my own stuff. That’s the goal. At least one album of new stuff.

2. Joe Kurland (Armory): “My New Year’s Music Resolution is simply to try to enjoy music again, whether listening to it, creating it, and especially playing instruments. Being a perfectionist and ultra analyzing everything often makes the whole process of making an album an overwhelmingly stressful burden. Like the Ring in TLOTR, it gives purpose to your life and drives you to achieve great things yet it slowly rots you from the inside. It would also be nice to play several shows and festivals in 2014 in support of our new album”.

New Year’s Music Resolutions For 2013: Part 1

Hey there readers, and a Merry Post-Christmas to you all (if you indeed celebrated the holiday like we do at the PiercingMetal Command HQ); It’s also Boxing Day for some and we wish well to those readers indulging in that holiday. So why are we here you ask….. Well, as 2012 draws to it’s inevitable end, I once again found myself wondering what the people who bring us that sweet, sweet music during the year had on their minds for the coming year of 2013. As I mentioned in a reflection blog posting only a couple of days ago, I had greatly enjoyed obtaining this information for you with last year’s series of “New Year’s Metal Resolutions for 2012” so it was high time to do it again. In case you were curious, I slightly changed the premise this year to allow for a broader reach and at the end of the day I think you will be satisfied with the results. So now without any further adieu, the answers to “What Is Your New Year’s Music Resolution for 2013” from some truly talented musicians. I reached out to some of the same contributors as last year and also to a wonderful new batch of people to make it all the more interesting.

1. Oderus Urungus (GWAR): To write and record the most awesome GWAR album yet, with our new guitar player, Pustulus Maximus!

2. Lance King: To make more music, it’s time to create another badass metallic opus for those paying attention!

3. Acey Slade (The Dark Party): If all goes as I hope I will be a part of 3 albums that come out in 2013. Which would be great because it’s been about 3 years since I put out anything new. The weird climate the music ‘business’ has been in, along with a shit economy has made musicians like me treat releasing new music with some trepidation. But on the creative end, there are over 20 Dark Party songs written, a dozen for another project I am working on and there’s other stuff too. So, my resolution would be to release new material, start to reestablish the ‘business’ side of things and also buy more new/current music. Last year I bought a lot of Motown, 70’s Glam, and 90’s alternative. I need some more metal in 2013…13 is a pretty metal number so..seems fitting.

Music Luminaries Share Their New Year’s Metal Resolutions for 2012: Part 4

So as we hit the three days left in 2011 mark let me ask you something. Did anyone else think that the year flew by us at a record pace? I know it did for me and perhaps this instant society we are living in with the Internet being such a core of our daily happenings and Facebook/Twitter addictions being par for the course are the reasons. Whatever the case may be here we are once more in our presentation of the “New Year’s Metal Resolutions for 2012” from some of the finest musical people that I have had the opportunity to interact with. Please enjoy our fantastic fourth chapter.

Johnny Kelly (drummer for Type O Negative, Seventh Void, A Pale Horse Named Death): Not sure if I have a resolution or not. My first one isn’t music related and that’s to stop smoking! My musical one though is to keep working hard to be able to do something that I still love doing. I want to see great things happen for APHND and I want the new Seventh Void record to come out in 2012!

Steve Blaze (lead guitarist for Lillian Axe): …to become a better, more patient human being. This will enable me to become more well rounded and pure iin all aspects of what I feel are the important elements of a truly great musician. Talent is one aspect but the soul and spirit are what drive it to its limits.

Margarita Monet (lead vocals for Edge Of Paradise): My New Year’s Metal Resolution is, besides writing the best song ever made, to further solidify and spread the heavy sound of my band. It’s not very common these days that bands have their own sound distinguishing them from thousands of other bands, like Black Sabbath or Iron Maiden have, when you hear their songs, you instantly know that it’s Sabbath! So this is the New Year’s resolution, to strive to create epic music with a sound that’s unique to ourselves and of course to tour the world and make everyone hear it 🙂

“Mask” (Single) by Edge Of Paradise

Artist: Edge Of Paradise
Title: “Mask” (Single)
Label: Shredrock Records
Release Date: 9/15/2011
Genre: Heavy Metal
Rating: 4/5

I was listening to the Heavy Metal Mayhem Radio Show recently and caught an interview with the lead singer Margarita Monet of this brand-new band to my Metal ears known as Edge Of Paradise. The name rings a mental bell but at this time I cannot determine why this is the case. The young singer sounded super positive and while the host of the show played a song called “Falling Down” I could only locate the single which is the same name as the debut album “Mask”. Here are some thoughts on the tune and the band.
