Artist: Suicide City
Venue: Brooklyn Music Terminal (Brooklyn, NY)
It is not my practice to cover unsigned bands in the Concerts section as it is now how we have been set up as a journalistic medium. However this case would spark a little necessary change to the rule book when I discovered that Suicide City was comprised of members of popular signed acts. The lineup of the group features Billy Graziadei (BioHazard) and Jennifer Arroyo (former Kittie). Based on them I knew it was going to be an interesting night. This would also be the first time that I was to attend a show at the Brooklyn Music Terminal, or BMT for short. This newly opened club is located in the space that was formerly occupied by the legendary Rock Capitol L’Amour. According to the owners, the goal is to continue along the same lines and bring quality acts to Brooklyn and increase the visibility of Heavy Metal music in the area once again. For those that remember L’Amour, this club is in the rear section of the original club (as it had split in two to maximize the metal effect on the listener). The capacity is about 700 and that’s great for a popular group can perform and easily sell out the night. The PA sounded good and I felt it must be new. I did not focus on the lighting work but note that a good PA and soundman are a smart move and go part in parcel. I hope this will be a consistent find for me at future events. Their opening is a welcome site as it also gives me a new place to cover shows and bring you the news about what is happening.
