Ghost Presents “The Summoning”

By now you are all pretty much aware that the band Ghost is one that is shrouded in mystery and in some sense a bit of smoke and mirrors. Having grown up on the likes of KISS as a band of initially masked collaborators, I really like this idea of not really knowing who is involved in the project. I also consider this news a bit of a birthday present (because its coming to light on my birthday today). Let’s take a look.

PiercingMetal Thoughts: Wow! This is the kind of hype that I enjoy and I look forward to seeing just how this story unfolds. I’ve only caught Ghost in concert once as you are reading this and completely missed out on enjoying Papa I on the stage before he was replaced by Papa II. I liked him and will miss his presence in the band but let’s see what Papa Emeritus III will be bringing to the table. I’ve got nothing else to add to this installment but will make sure to add some Amazon.com codes for you below so you can pre-order the new music and pick up copies of the older works in the event that you don’t have them. Until the Clergy meets once again….I remain……

“Year Zero” (Single) by Ghost

Artist: Ghost
Title: “Year Zero” (Single)
Label: Loma Vista Recordings
Release Date: 3/12/2013
Genre: Doom Metal
Rating: 5/5

It wasn’t long ago that I offered up some thoughts on the debut single “Secular Haze” from the upcoming Ghost B.C. album “Infestissumam” which you can find HERE. I didn’t love or hate the track per se but was glad to get some time to absorb the second single “Year Zero” which I am loving quite a bit. This tune was also free and in order to hear it before the full release, the fans had to use Facebook to nominate their new singer Papa Emeritus II as the new Pope for the Roman Catholic Church. He didn’t win the vote of course but the fans still got and advance listen to what I feel is a fantastic track. “Year Zero” begins with a choir that names numerous demonic entities and that is an intense way to start. It takes a moment or two to realize that is what they are saying but they are. The riff on this one is almost hypnotic and with its steady pace draws you into the melodies quite well. When Papa II begins to sing his tale of how insignificant man is in the greater scheme of things it just brings you deeper into their mire.

Ghost Announces “Haze Over North America” Tour

tour posters, ghost, ghost tour posters, loma vista recordings artists

The Scoop: So I didn’t get any kind of “official press release” about this and had to cull the dates from some of those providers that had and with this being the case, the introduction copy is off the top of my head. As you can see below, the band Ghost will be heading out on what amounts to be a a couple of months tour under the banner “Haze Over North America”. It’s likely a call to their revealed single “Secular Haze” which we reviewed not long ago on a link you can find HERE. The groups upcoming album is called “Infestissumam” (which I have no idea what that means) and they are no longer fronted by Papa Emeritus I. He was replaced in a live concert ceremony by Papa Emeritus II. Interesting stuff right? I like to think so. Anyway, here are the run of dates. Are you invading a venue near you? PiercingMetal Thoughts: So I still haven’t caught Ghost in concert and am saddened at the notion that I missed out on seeing the glory that must have been Papa Emeritus I while he reigned over the masses in sinister form delivering sermons found on “Opus Eponymous” but what can you do, the only constant is change as my father always says. That being said, I love what I’ve heard Papa II doing and I feel that the group is in good hands for the future and beyond. The dates show them in my Metal Metropolis close to the time of my own birthday (not the websites) so I am going to try to be on point and offering up a story for you all to be there with us. What do you folks think about this tour news? Are you already supporting the group? Fill us in on what is to be expected since you know more than I do at the moment. Thanks for listening.

“Secular Haze” (Single) by Ghost

Artist: Ghost
Title: “Secular Haze” (Single)
Label: Loma Vista Recordings
Release Date: 2/18/2013
Genre: Doom Metal
Rating:

The masked and mysterious band Ghost who we last heard from with their awesome “Opus Eponymous” debut album are preparing to release their latest bit of work upon the masses and have unveiled this new single “Secular Haze” back in December. The song was at first available for free and is now available for immediate digital download for a modest sum. Since that last time around some changes have some to pass with the first and most prominent being the newly installed Papa Emeritus II who replaced Papa I in a live concert ceremony. The second is that they are now going by “Ghost B.C.” here in the USA for legal reasons. It’s a clear play on the “Before Christ” adage but the bands Nameless Ghouls stress this is silent. So about the track, it’s an interesting one with an almost carnival vibe to it based on the keyboards and I had to admit that Papa II sure does sound a lot like Papa I so the fans will not have issue adjusting to the new member.
