I’ve been down with the sounds of Kobra and The Lotus since I first heard them a couple of years ago and think that they are one of the most promising of the new groups to come upon the Metal scene in a few years. Fronted by the incredible Kobra Paige, we last heard them on album with the cover release of “Words Of The Prophets” and to say that many are eager for new music would be an understatement. The band has signed to Napalm Records and joins the roster alongside fine bands like Kamelot and many more. Since a new double CD is being worked on we got the single “TriggerPulse” to feed our brains for the duration.

“Zombie” (Single) by Kobra and The Lotus

Rating: 4/5

Since the bands most recent tribute effort “Words Of The Prophets” was released, the fans have been wondering when we can expect a full on new album from Canada’s Kobra and The Lotus and while I am also one of the curious I am happy to share that a brand new single called “Zombie” has surfaced a couple of weeks ago. For me this is better than nothing and as far as the track goes there is some really driving drums and guitars under the powerful vocal register of Kobra Paige. The single features guest guitarist Charlie Parra del Riego who is a new name to me but judging by the licks that he is delivering in the track is one that we might be hearing from again very soon. The tune sounds like the perfect live track as Kobra’s vibe on it is nothing less than commanding your full attention. I’ve been a fan of her style for a few years now and am still surprised that more people are not aware of what she and the boys bring to the table. Wake up citizens of the Metal Empire, you’re missing out on some quality tunes here. While the song is called “Zombie”, Kobra is not saying that she is one, but that she feels like one at times. There is also a quirky bit of cover art to go along with the digital single.

To follow up their smoking hot “High Priestess” album and tour supporting the “Hottest Band In The World” KISS, Kobra and The Lotus have decided to treat their fans to an EP that’s loaded with the bands that they grew up with and musicians and who all hail from their native Canada. I’ve said in the past that I am pretty much over the “cover album” idea but when one is done that shows itself as being different and breaks out of the same old same old mold that so many others have locked into I am all for it. As a scribe who really enjoys what KATL do on album and stage I was glad to find this being the case with their bunch of covers. The five song EP gives us a track apiece from Triumph, April Wine, Alannah Myles, BTO and Rush – Let’s go over the numbers that they chose to do.

Be Stunned By Kobra And The Lotus’ “Black Velvet” Video

Logo - Kobra and The Lotus

Alright so I admit to being a little behind in this one because the spectacular Kobra and The Lotus had actually unveiled this video for their cover of “Black Velvet” a few weeks ago. Its an Alannah Myles recorded tune that was penned by Christopher Ward and David Tyson. Its going to be one of the tunes on the bands forthcoming effort “Words Of The Prophets” which is an album of Canadian centric cover tunes. In case you didn’t catch this already, the title itself is a line from Rush’s “Spirit Of Radio” which the band is also doing but I’ll discuss that when it comes down to the album review in a couple of months. Let’s watch the video and chat a little more afterward.
