PiercingMetal’s “Best Of” 2012: The Concerts

Looking back on 2012 as a concert going year I had to say that there were a lot of cool highlights for me. Sure I was compiling my “Year End Best Of” to cover all the different things that I’ve examined over the year but with the blog growing faster and faster and more contests happening on it for the crushing shows that hit our town, I decided to keep showcasing a number of the concerts that I saw during the course of the year. Bear in mind that these are my very favorite ones out of the whole bunch. I really had a great time seeing a number of shows but these stood out. Here we go.

1. KISS @ Live On Letterman: I don’t think that I need to go into how cool it is to see a band like KISS in the Ed Sullivan Theatre. The place holds 500 or so people and KISS sells out places that hold thousands more. See why I felt this was special. So yeah.

2. Nightwish and Kamelot @ Beacon Theatre: Nightwish and Kamelot both hold very special places to me as a music scribe and having them paired up for a tour was extraordinary.

3. Trans-Siberian Orchestra @ Prudential Center: This show was the debut of the new “Lost Christmas Eve” themed tour.

4. Roger Waters @ Yankee Stadium: My second time at Yankee Stadium for a massive concert and with Roger playing “The Wall” from front to back I stood awestruck.

5. KISS & Motley Crue @ PNC Bank Arts Center: This was a kickass pairing and the guys in The Treatment were pretty damned good as well.

6. Lamb Of God @ Roseland Ballroom: Metal laid waste to NYC this night.

7. Paganfest @ Gramercy Theatre: Turisas headlined this one and brought along Alestorm, Arkona and Huntress.

8. Sabaton @ Gramercy Theatre: This band is climbing the pole of popularity. Local support

9. Rhapsody Of Fire @ Gramercy Theatre: There was so much drama with the RoF division leading up to this show but you would never notice with the levels of kick ass Power Metal that was happening on the stage.

10. Marillion @ Irving Plaza: Leaders of the Neo-Progressive Rock movement. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen them and they even did “Kayleigh”.

New Year’s Music Resolutions For 2013: Part 4

When I do my NY Comic Con coverage, I always refer to the fourth chapter or segment as being my “Fantastic Fourth” edition since its kind of aimed at the comic book of the same name. Since
I could not come up with anything different as I compiled all of these resolution responses you will just have to bear with me as I use it once more to proudly welcome readers to our “Fantastic Fourth” chapter of “New Year’s Music Resolutions for 2013”; That’s all I have for you now, so get thee reading.

1. Erik Kliuber (Gypsyhawk): For 2013 I resolve to keep doing what I’ve been doing with music. Writing, performing, and learning new music is a state of being. I have to force myself to write a little to a lot every day I’m home. I’ll have very limited free time next year due to touring and having to work shitty jobs between tours. The next album has to be even better than “Revelry and Resilience”.

2. Elizabeth Schall (Dreaming Dead): To embrace my fears, doubts, my convictions, embrace my truth and turn each one of them into music.

3. Carmine Appice (Cactus/Vanilla Fudge/King Kobra): My New Year’s Music Resolution is to gig as much as I can with all my different bands from my past!!!

New Year’s Music Resolutions For 2013: Part 2

Hey there readers and welcome back to the presentation of “New Year’s Music Resolutions for 2013”; I am really glad that you are joining us along for the series because it’s such a blast giving everyone a look inside the thoughts of these musical people. I’ll stop talking now and let you get right into it since there are many more chapters for me to share additional opinions with you. Have at it.

1. Joel Hoekstra (Night Ranger/Trans-Siberian Orchestra/Rock Of Ages): My 2013 New Year’s Music Resolution is to CONTINUE to work as hard as possible and appreciate every second of the best job on planet Earth!…and meeting Angus Young would be bad ass 🙂

2. Tim Roth (Into Eternity): My New Year’s Metal Resolution for 2013 would be, to continue my daily listening, of the latest Yngwie J. Malmsteen album entitled, “Spellbound”. I think we all could learn a lesson or two about the relentless drive, that Yngwie has towards pushing the envelope of Neo-Classical Metal. I vow also, to continue to teach my 4 year old son, Lucca Jacob Yngwie Roth, the ways of the Jedi Shred Legend that is and only could be, Yngwie J. Malmsteen! In addition, I would like to spend more time on PiercingMetal.com and I’d love to see my musical group, Into Eternity, head back to Europe AND release our long overdue 6th album.

3. Frankie Banali (Quiet Riot): 2013 marks the 30th anniversary of the release of “Metal Health” and I plan to continue to bring the music of QUIET RIOT to the fans and to keep the memory of Kevin DuBrow alive and well through the music that he and I never took for granted and have so much pride in. That is my singular New Year’s Music Resolution for 2013.
