Image Comics Reveals “10” New “Image Firsts” $1 Issues For 2018

Before we begin I have to ask you all a question. Do you have an extra $10 on you? If you answered “Yes” to the question, you’ll want to put it someplace safe in your wallet or purse and make a call to your local comic book retailer and ask them to add the brand-new Image Comics “Image Firsts” one dollar issues to your pull list. Let’s overview the recently issued press about the titles and enjoy the provided images.

The Press Release:
In response to recent feedback from direct market retailers, Image Comics is pleased to announce the expansion of the popular “Image Firsts” editions—printings of the first issues of popular series that only cost $1. Perfect for readers interested in trying out a variety of new series without feeling the effects on their wallet, five popular titles will have their Image First editions brought back to print while seven additional bestselling series will get Image First editions this April. These new releases will be available in stores on Wednesday, April 25th—just in time for retailers to stock up for the influx of new customers on Free Comic Book Day on Saturday, May 5th.

“Image Firsts: Afar” #1

AFAR #1 by Leila Del Duca & Kit Seaton: In a fantastical post-industrial desert, 15-year-old Boetema suddenly develops the ability to astral project to other planets while she sleeps. When she accidentally gets a young man hurt on a planet light-years away, she must figure out a way to project back to save him. On her own world, Boetema’s two parents have temporarily left her and her 13-year-old brother, Inotu, to make a living as salt shepherds. Left to their own devices, the two siblings must flee across a dangerous desert when Inotu gets into trouble with a threatening cyborg bodyguard. As Boetema visits amazing planets and encounters vibrant cultures, she must confront her mistakes and learn to trust in Inotu as she navigates her newfound abilities.

Image Comics First Issues Coming August 2017

Alright, so here we are again. I promised you that I was going to return at around lunchtime with the next batch of solicitations. We just ran the Dynamite Comics stuff and now it’s time for the few launches that are coming from Image Comics. As you probably have observed, I have been showcasing the variant covers that Image has been offering up as a part of their 25th Anniversary celebration. Those summaries get their own posts since I like to allow easier focus. Okay, let’s get a move on it. Take a look.

“Mage: The Hero Denied” #1

MAGE: THE HERO DENIED #1 (OF 15) – GEM OF THE MONTH: LEGENDARY WRITER / ARTIST MATT WAGNER RETURNS FOR THE THIRD AND FINAL VOLUME OF HIS EPIC FANTASY TRILOGY—MAGE: THE HERO DENIED! This first full-sized issue begins 10 years after the climax of THE HERO DEFINED and finds the everyman hero Kevin Matchstick at an unexpected point in his life. It’s been some time since he’s utilized his powers as the reincarnated Pendragon, wielder of the mystical weapon Excalibur. Despite his reluctance to fulfill what two different Mages have declared as his destiny, dark forces have gathered to once again force Kevin into action. Throughout these events, Kevin keeps hoping for the same mystical guidance that has mentored him in the past. “Who is the third Mage?!”

MAGE: THE HERO DENIED will be a 15-issue limited series climaxing in a double-sized finale. Newly repackaged editions of the previous books from the trilogy—THE HERO DISCOVERED andTHE HERO DEFINED—will be released over the course of the new series. MAGE has been a perennial favorite with old and new readers alike for nearly three decades.
