Hello again my fine-feathered convention geek friends. Welcome back to my in-depth wanderings of the Five Points Festival. We’re now up to the fourth and final chapter in this presentation and in this one I will be finishing up with the photographs that I shot over the course of the Saturday session of the event. I’m going to start this chapter with some more of the wonderful Designer Toys that we walked past.
Hello there my friends, I am back with another chapter in my Five Points Festival coverage. You’ve arrived at Part Three so I’m hoping that you’ve seen the previous installments because I’m wandering through in an aisle by aisle fashion. Let’s get on down to business shall we.
Hey look its Sasha Yosselani. You probably recognize her from my NYCC posts over the last couple of years.
Welcome back my friends, you have safely arrived at the second chapter of my Five Points Festival coverage. The event happened just this past weekend at Pier 36 down on the Lower East Side. I’ll be chiming in every now and again as I see fit and let’s begin with this awesome drawing of the late great David Bowie.
Okay my friends, we are now going to present you with the fun-filled visual findings from the first-ever “Five Points Festival”. The convention was taking place on Pier 36 down on the Lower East Side and it would be the first time that I ever went down this way for an event. It was pretty easy to get to by mass transit and then would be a few minutes walk. Check out one of the promo pieces of art to warm up to what is coming in these photos. As you can see the premise was Designer Toys, Comics, Street Art, Beer and an overall NYC vibe. This is going to be interesting for sure. Here we go.
Those who’ve been reading our narratives for a lengthy bit of time know how we just love a good convention here at the Metal Command HQ. We’ve been hitting the NY Comic Con for years and just this past 2016 got to enjoy the Star Trek: Mission New York event which was a brand new convention. Recently I’ve been seeing some posts about this upcoming event and I wanted to bring it to your attention in the event that its also new news to you. It sure sounds like a lot of fun so check out the Official Scoop from their website and some art. I’ll return at the close.
What Is The Five Points Festival? “The Five Points Festival is a collision of toys, comics, and counterculture curated by Clutter Magazine and presented by Midtown Comics. A designer toy and comic convention in New York’s Lower East Side, Five Points is two days and nights of comic artists and writers, vinyl and plastic toys, original art, resin, plush, blind boxes, graphic novels, indie comics, blanks, minis, kaiju, Japanese vinyl, posters, prints, apparel, food trucks, and craft breweries – capped off by the 2017 Designer Toy Awards. The antidote to the average con, Five Points brings tastemakers, misfits, and rebels together with the new, retro, and infamous in a one-of-a-kind marketplace.”
PiercingMetal Thoughts: I’m really interested in this new event and will be looking into attending provided I have the weekend open to do so. Though I cannot confirm this at the moment I am composing these thoughts, I don’t think that Special Edition NYC is returning in 2017 as they missed 2016 with that side convention to NY Comic Con. Having the Five Points Festival happening in May is a great thing since that gives many fans a summer convention in NYC that helps gear them up for the massive NYCC provided they can even get tickets for that one. My expectations are that a lot of this will be like “The Block” at NYCC where we see a ton of designer items and offerings. I’m also hoping for some cool food trucks and craft beer vendors to enjoy a bit to eat and a brew with my fellow geeks who are of age to do that sort of thing. So what do you think of this convention my friends? Is it something you are going to mark down on your calendar and plan on attending? Let me know in the comments section below. See you next time.
