Horror fans must be delighted that the anthology series “American Horror Story” is now at its sixth season with “Roanoke”; and I admit that I almost didn’t even see this one coming based on all the other stuff I’ve had to deliver to your table in terms of the Heavy Music scene and our comics and toy coverages from all the conventions. Whew. Are you planning on watching this one? Check your local listings for times and availability for you to program it or catch On Demand and then examine the poster, premise and cast down below.
Plot: Presented as a paranormal documentary series titled My Roanoke Nightmare in the first half of the season, the story follows a married couple whose experiences are reenacted by actors. Shelby and Matt Miller move from Los Angeles, California, to a house in North Carolina following a brutal assault which left Matt temporarily hospitalized and caused Shelby to have a miscarriage. As soon as the couple settles into their new home, located on a farmstead in rural North Carolina where the Roanoke Colony settled after their infamous disappearance, strange and paranormal occurrences begin to haunt them and Matt’s sister, Lee Harris. In the five-episode documentary, Shelby is portrayed by the extravagant English actress Audrey Tindall, Matt by the conceited Dominic Banks and Lee by Monet Tumusiime. I’m not sure who among you is still following the horror anthology series “American Horror Story”, but the show’s fourth season is here with “Freak Show” and the commercials for it look really creepy. Check out the poster, premise and casting down below. You’ll need to check your local listings and see if you have the FX network with your cable provider to enjoy this one.
Plot: The fifth season of American Horror Story focuses on the Downtown Los Angeles Hotel Cortez which has been recently purchased by a New York fashion designer, Will Drake. The 90-year-old hotel is haunted by demons and mysterious ghosts including the founder, James Patrick March; heroin addict Sally; and the strap-on-wielding Addiction Demon. Staff and residents of the hotel include the 111-year-old “vampire”, Elizabeth/The Countess, and her longtime paramour, the former drug-addict Donovan, as well as Donovan’s mother, the manager and front desk clerk Iris; the eccentric transgender bartender Liz Taylor; and the Countess’ vengeance-obsessed ex-lover, Ramona Royale. Have you watched any off the past “American Horror Story” series when they aired over the last couple of years? There are three of them if you haven’t already dug into them and there is some seriously quirky and spooky business going on in each one. The interesting thing about the show is that each new season is a different premise and not just one long continuing storyline. What began with the “Murder House” and led us to the “Asylum” caught us in a magical web with “Coven” and here we are now with nickels in hand lining up at the circus for its latest offering “Freak Show” which airs tonight on FX (check your local listings for times). Check out the poster below that I borrowed from The Hollywood Reporter since it was nicely sized and then we can dig into the premise, cast and more.
The Plot: The fourth season will be set in Jupiter, Florida in 1952. It will be centered around one of the few remaining freak shows at the time, as its members do anything to keep the business alive. The season will focus on the conflict between the freaks and the “evil forces” who do not understand them. The season will also feature a “clown killer” and a “bearded lady”.
