For this who are interested, today is the opening day for the new Science Fiction film entitled “Battleship”. As you might have guessed it is loosely based on the board game of the same name.
Now I am not too sure on how one actually gets a film out of a game like Battleship but having seen the trailer it does look interesting and pits our armed forces against an alien threat. I will not likely catch this in the theaters myself since I am anxiously preparing for the release of “Marvel’s The Avengers” which opens next month. What are your thoughts about this film or its premise? Will you see it on the big screen or wait until Netflix or some other means of viewing?

Alexander Skarsgård as Commander Stone Hopper
Rihanna as Gunner’s Mate Second Class (GM2) Cora Raikes

Tadanobu Asano as Captain Nagaa

The second sequel to the “Underworld” series continues with “Underworld: Awakening” and of course it stars the deadly Kate Beckinsale as Selene, the series heroine vampire. Having enjoyed all three of the films that preceded this one, I am very excited for it. Check out this basic premise that I copied from the film’s Wikipedia page:
“Six months after the events of Underworld: Evolution, humans have captured Selene during “The Purge”, a global military crusade to exterminate vampires and lycans. Vampires have waged guerrilla warfare against the government, but the humans have overrun them, forcing survivors to hide underground and resist the humans on their own.”
Of course the entry gives out more information that would end up making this a spoiler and I cannot allow that to happen so will close it up with the casting detail and the view that to learn the rest of the story you will just have to sit in the theaters of our fair metropolis. Well, if you don’t live in NYC like we do feel free to do that same thing in your own metropolis 🙂 So who else enjoyed this overall creepy premise and is excited for the next chapter?
Kate Beckinsale as Selene, a Death Dealer and a Vampire-Corvinus Strain Hybrid
Michael Ealy as Detective Sebastian
India Eisley as Eve, Selene and Michael’s Hybrid daughter.
Theo James as David, Selene’s Vampire ally
Stephen Rea as Dr. Jacob Lane, a Lycan-Corvinus Strain Hybrid
Kris Holden-Ried as Quint Lane, a powerful Lycan-Corvinus Strain Hybrid
Charles Dance as Thomas, a Vampire Elder and father of David.

The other chapters in this exciting series are all available on DVD and Blu-ray disc. Here are the links to some Amazon.com purchase points should you still need to check them out.
“It’s time for a little monkey business my dear readers” and don’t tell me that you didn’t see that one coming from me. That being said, today is the day that “Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes” opens up in theaters near you. Check out the poster.
In reading the film’s Wiki Entry we find that “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” is a 2011 American science fiction film directed by Rupert Wyatt and starring the cast listed below. It has been written by Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, it is 20th Century Fox’s reboot of the “Planet of the Apes” series and thereby serves as an origin story for a new series of films. Its premise is similar to the fourth film in the original series, “Conquest of the Planet of the Apes” (1972), but it is not a direct remake in that it does not fit into that series’ continuity. Considering its a reboot it is not connected to the film “Planet Of The Apes” which starred Mark Wahlberg and premiered in 2001. I guess that is a good thing since to me the only thing good in that film was the makeup by Rick Baker. Of course mine is only one opinion and I loved the original franchise. I pretty much grew up with these first films and remember my Grandmother being brave enough to sit through all five in one sitting at a movie house in Greenpoint. Thanks again Nan 🙂 – To the best of my knowledge the television series was something I also enjoyed and I had all of the Mego action figures of the time. Sadly I no longer have these figures and they are worth a few bucks so that kind of stinks.
What are your thoughts on there being a reboot of the now decade old revisit to this franchise? Are you excited? Do you care? Will you see it? Let me know in the comments but please try to stray away from any spoilers unless announcing that there is spoilers in your submission. I don’t want anyone’s fun ruined after all.

“When Captain America throws his mighty shield! All those who chose to oppose his shield must yield! If he’s led to a fight and a duel is due then the red and the white and the blue will come through when Captain America throws his mighty shield!!!!!
Such were the words of the song from the “Marvel Super-Heroes” cartoon show that aired way back in 1966 but I doubt that many of you would remember that depending on your actual vintage. Today is the day that “Captain America: The First Avenger” opens up to the masses and after seeing how good “Thor” was and having enjoyed both “Iron Man” and “The Incredible Hulk” I have very high hopes for what we shall get with Cap.
