PiercingMetal Thoughts: As this will be a continuous list I will refrain from commenting just yet.
The insidious forces behind the Beyond The Gates festival have firmed up the full lineup for this years event that will take place in a faraway land from where we are stationed. Brave a look, if you dare…..
The Press Release:
So this is it – the full line-up for Beyond the Gates 2019 in all its glory. And what a festival it’s going to be. The final piece of the puzzle is something of a treat. Abbath has just announced the follow up to his 2015 debut, entitled “Outstrider”. The album is due on July the 5th and the Beyond the Gates audience will be treated to a spectacular and exclusive homecoming show on the final day of the festival.
We are also pleased to announce the addition of German/Turkish black metal outfit Imha Tarikat. If you haven’t checked out their debut album “Kara Ihlas” yet, please do. Haunting and atmospheric black metal doesn’t get any better than this. Imha Tarikat will join Ritual Death and Watain for the very special Wednesday show taking place at Hulen. Last night was the Heavy Metal concert that was held by wrestler Chris Jericho and his band Fozzy. The event was a blast in terms of the Traditional sound that it offered up but now that it was over, it was time to get a little grittier and see what was brewing down at the Scandinavia House. It was there that a seminar on Norwegian Black Metal would be held and its official title was “A Blaze In The Northern Sky: Norwegian Black Metal & The Culture That Spawned It”. The affair would be moderated and in a sense hosted by Patrizia Mazzuoccolo; a music journalist and as I understand a sometimes radio host for this type of material. Well it’s that time of the year again and that means it’s time to share with you all what I felt were my very favorites from all of the stuff that was reviewed here on PiercingMetal for the musical year of 2007. I will keep this introduction short and instead let these highlights shine a little brighter. Here we go.
Best CD’s of 2007:
Let’s just consider this a sampling of some of the music that we found ourselves listening to on more than one occasion be it on the stereo loud enough to wake the neighbors or on our music players. We review hundreds of discs each year and this batch are among the best and most enjoyed by our editorial offices.
Epica “The Divine Conspiracy” (Nuclear Blast Records) – So the singer you have heard on some Kamelot stuff and her band have delivered their third release, a magnum opus that is meatier than beef stew when it comes to satisfying content.
Kamelot “Ghost Opera” (SPV Records) – If you wondered how the guys could top “The Black Halo”, then pick up a copy of this one.
After Forever “After Forever” (Nuclear Blast Records) – You’ve heard her in Ayreon stuff for years now the larger populace can enjoy
Daath “The Hinderers” (Roadrunner Records) – Crushing, thunderous, topical. Interesting lyrical premise as well.
Nightwish “Dark Passion Play” (Roadrunner Records) – Tarja who? The band is back and on fire with new singer Annette Olzon, “Bye Bye Beautiful” indeed, “Hello Beautiful” as well…..
Dream Theater “Systematic Chaos” (Roadrunner Records) – New DT was quite satisfying. I’ve been a fan for years and this album reminded me of why that is the case.
Opeth “The Roundhouse Tapes” – An Opeth live concert recording that finds them on tour supporting their newest album and yet making time to fit in their classics. Stunning.
