A lot has gone on in the world of Folk Metal sensations Eluveitie since we last witnessed their unique brand of musical assault and if you’ve been a fan for any longer period of time and are not up to date, then the musicians you see in the first clip from their upcoming album will be a bit of a mystery to you. Yeah it seems as though a number of the favorites have gone on to other adventures and as someone who has loved them since the “Slania” days can say with truth that I look forward to hearing their next chapter. Speaking of next chapter, Eluveitie is back with an album that will be called “Evocation II: Pantheon” and it will come from their longtime label Nuclear Blast Records. I’ve embedded the video clip for “Epona” below.
Now this was some shocking stuff to see posted on a gloomy Thursday morning. One of our very favorites bands and providers of crushing Folk Metal, Eluveitie, have announced what is nothing less than a major dramatic shift in the lineup. The bands full statement is below.
“With a heavy heart we have to announce that Eluveitie will go through another change soon.
We have decided to part ways with our longtime drummer Merlin Sutter. In the consequence of this, Merlin’s close personal friends Anna Murphy and Ivo Henzi decided to leave Eluveitie as well.
We all developed a lot over the last ten years – not only as a band, but also as individuals. And we partly developed in different directions; different goals, wishes and ideas emerged. Over the last years we all had to deal with interpersonal challenges within the band. Instead of pulling together, our days have rather been shaped by wearing friction and constant clash of interests. And thus we felt that we have become something we shouldn’t have; that we’ve diverged from what Eluveitie was always meant to be – a band, a family, a passionate and deep-rooted group of musicians, where heart’s blood can flow freely! Eluveitie was always meant to be about „rock’n’roll“, passion and also about ‘carrying the torch’ of the Celtic spirit. Yet over the years we have partly diverged from our roots, which is not good.
Each and every single one of us is definitely a passionate musician! But in this group constellation, we seemed to rather cumber, than to inspire each other. The band has suffered from this for a longer time now.
So we ended up in this painful situation where the mentioned facts have made it impossible to us to continue like this and we came to the point eventually, where we believe, it’s best to go seperate ways. Continue reading Folk Metal Masters Eluveitie Announce Dramatic Lineup Changes→
Eluveitie returns to the Big Metal Apple for a rousing night of Folk Metal. Joining them will be The Agonist and Martina Edoff. Please note that this tour was initially headlined by Epica who had to cancel the remaining dates and return home due to family emergency. All tickets are still valid but those wishing a refund should contact their point of purchase. Eluveitie and Agonist will play extended sets in the absence of Epica.
Got back from a totally kick butt event down at The Studio at Webster Hall (concert narrative coming soon I promise) and as I scrolled through the wonders of Facebooks timeline I saw this bummer of an announcement from Epica who have cancelled the remaining dates on their North American tour. The official press statement is below along with the remaining dates on the run. Check it out.
Dear North American fans; It is with heavy hearts that we have to announce the cancellation of all remaining shows of our North American tour. A couple of days ago Simone had to fly back to the Netherlands to be with her family due to an emergency. Sadly there has been no major improvement in that situation so it is impossible for Simone to return to the tour at this moment. Therefore we have no other option than to cancel the remaining dates. However, the Revolver tour will carry on as scheduled with Eluveitie, The Agonist and Martina Edoff. We will again be rescheduling the North American tour in support of the Quantum Enigma for the beginning of next year. If you wish to refund your tickets you can do this through the venue. VIP-tickets purchased through Soundrink will be refunded automatically. Tickets for this tour will not be valid for the rescheduled dates. We want to thank all our fans and partners for their understanding and support in this difficult situation. Sincerely, EPICA

PiercingMetal Thoughts: Not much I can say since this is a family emergency and I always maintain that its family first in life. I hope for the very best for Simone and her family and that we fans on this side of the globe get to enjoy their incredible sounds sooner rather than later. I also hope that the fans choose to stick with these remaining dates as both Eluveitie and The Agonist are great live acts that I have seen numerous times over the years. I am expecting them to pull out all the stops in proper respect to Epica to give the fans a show that they will not soon forget. That’s all I’ve got.
