The Press Release:
Dynamite announces the next epic chapter in the comic book chronicles of the legendary rock band, KISS: Zombies!
After all, what can possibly happen after “The End” than a full-blown zombie apocalypse? That is the screwed up status quo that writer Ethan Sacks (Old Man Hawkeye, Star Wars) and artist Rodney Buchemi (Death of Hawkman) will tackle in this new limited series. Assisted on colors and letters by Dijjo Lima (Assassin’s Creed, Doc Savage) and Troy Peteri (Amazing Spider-Man, Witchblade).
Picking up decades after the fall of civilization, humans are now an endangered species isolated to strongholds such as the central New Detroit. These undead are attracted to sound, so music and all related iconography have been banned. Especially that of the greatest band in history. However, a group of teenagers are not going to live this way and set out on a quest to track down KISS! Who may ultimately be the ultimate weapon to turn the tide against the zombies! Sacks has described the series as a cocktail of Land of the Dead, A Quiet Place, Seven Samurai and even Footloose! Continue reading Dynamite Announces “KISS: Zombies” Series For November→

Your favorite Rock and Roll superheroes KISS are back in a brand new exciting comic book series that is coming care of Dynamite Entertainment. The byline reads as “KISS is back! Back to the FUTURE in this dark sci-fi adventure. In a world without sun and a world without heroes, four young friends embark on a dangerous mission – to uncover the truth about the mysterious Council of Elders and their underground home, the city of Blackwell. But first they need some help from the past…”
The Official Dynamite Entertainment site had some commentary by writer Amy Chu about the series and I’ve shared that with you below.
“What is the power of KISS? I was having breakfast recently with the fabulous writer Kelly Sue DeConnick. When she found out I was writing this series, it was like firecrackers had been set off in the restaurant, she was so excited. So I’m doing this not just for the hardcore fans (like Kelly Sue) but also the new ones, like her children. It’s a huge challenge for me. KISS is iconic. Legendary. It’s global and cross-generational. So much has been done before with KISS in comics, a LOT of fun and crazy stuff. So for this series, I thought, why not go more serious? For research, I hunkered down and listened to the 1981 album Music from The Elder several times. Like the movie Blade Runner which came out around the same time, people didn’t know what to make of it. If this album came out now, I think it would be entirely different reception. So this storyline is more focused on mythology, heroism, and legend, and inspired by themes, lyrics, and song titles from that album.”
The series hits the stands on 10/19 so be sure to ask your favorite retailer to set some copies aside for you. Below you will find all of the variant covers of the first issue. Knowing how KISS fans collect things, there are going to be some barren shelves in the comic store on the quick side. Check them out.
In keeping up with the monthly first issues that we discuss here on the website, I want to try and get to the coolness coming from Dynamite Comics when they have stuff that goes right into the pocket of our readers interest base. With that being said let me share with you the press and cover images of a couple of cool items coming from Dynamite Entertainment in January.
RED SONJA #1: Through the plains of Hyrkania, a message sweeps through the scattered peoples of the nation. Bells ring, horns blow, voices shout – the King is dying! Red Sonja rides to save the King from his doom as the powers of Hyboria crowd around to strike when the kingdom is weakest. But a dread new power rises from within Hyrkania’s own borders, bent on defending its homeland – no matter the cost, no matter what its people become. A defining chapter of the Red Sonja saga – dark, clever, vicious, and funny – as the She-Devil with a Sword must stop the rise of a brutal new regime… her own people!
“Welcome to my Comic Book” is what you might be singing when you get your hands on this new series that finds the great Alice Cooper interacting with the deadly denizens of the Chaos Universe. Check out the cover of this sure to be thrilling title and its official press copy before I offer up my own thoughts.
“It’s the ultimate heavy metal crossover as the original shock rocker meets the original death metal comic book universe! Bizarre nightmares are plaguing Evil Ernie, Chastity and Purgatori, and though the hate each other’s guts, they may have to join the teen monster team called The Chosen to find the one and only Alice Cooper! Co-writer Tim Seeley says, “I’m excited to work with my friend Jim Terry on the perfect mash-up of our favorite things. Dynamite is a great place to make crossovers, and this one will be pure metal. Raise your devil hand, fiends.” Co-writer and artist Jim Terry says, “Diving headfirst into the CHAOS universe has been incredible, like being pushed out of a plane into a combat zone filled with gods, nut jobs and the most gorgeous women you could fathom. I’m doing my best to keep up with it and hopefully kick in a little dramatic flair, as well as Tim and my own particular brand of madness. Add Alice Cooper to the mix and we’re hoping to leave fans breathless from action, horror and mind bending rock n roll surrealism.”

PiercingMetal Thoughts: Somewhere in my collection I have a couple of boxes devoted entirely to the Chaos Comics output of the 90’s. I loved titles like “Lady Death”, “Purgatori”, “Chastity” and of course the menacing “Evil Ernie”. This was off the wall stuff for sure and since I have a lot of those in trade paperbacks they remain safely in their plastic sleeves with a backing board. Don’t laugh at me for being meticulous about my books, all collectors are. So with that being said this sure sounds like a fun ride. I’m a big Alice Cooper fan and have been for years. He’s actually opening up for Motley Crue on their Final Tour so I hope to get to see him on one of their stops but I am getting ahead of myself here. Let’s get back onto the topic of the comic book. This as a crossover sure does interest me since its got a lot of great characters who will be working together or against each other and since each one is a unique entity in their own right, the spark and flames are going to fly. Will you be checking out this mini-series? Let me know in the comments section below. Going forward I am going to try to get more of the first issue offerings that Dynamite is doing each month like our Marvel, DC and Valiant Comics offerings.
