For many fans in the Metal Legions of the World, the inimitable Doro Pesch is the reigning Queen. She has kept it going for decades and always brings the fire to the fans with her ever so memorable performances. Having seen her on many occasions over the years I can attest to the good time that one has at a Doro show. This summer finds her releasing not one but two brand-new albums with on Nuclear Blast Records with “Forever Warriors” and “Forever United”. To help raise awareness about the massive undertaking, Doro was filmed offering up a brief notion or two on every single track across the two albums. That’s right, I said EVERY SINGLE TRACK. They started today but in the interest of time and focus (and also to prevent myself from having “25” different Doro posts in a short time frame, I will present them all as one for your enjoyment. Here we go…
Hails My Metal Legions, it’s time to “Heben Sie Ihre Faust” or as we say in English, “RAISE YOUR FIST” because today is the 30th Anniversary of the Warlock album “Triumph and Agony” which was released on this day care of Mercury Records. The album, while their fourth and final release, was probably the one that the fans of this type of music first learned of the band and their rocking leader – The Amazing Doro Pesch. The group was popular in their native Germany but back then it was very hard to break a band over in this part of the globe. We had Helloween of course, but even they didn’t come over here for touring all that much to my recollection. The album would feature a completely new lineup for the group and its signature, and most iconic track is the anthemic “All We Are”. I’ll go over some more about the tracks after reminding how like most of our toasts, this is a personal reflection more than its line by line analysis since that stuff has long been done on the albums Wikipedia entry.
Warlock’s new lineup consisted of Niko Arvanitis and Tommy Bolan on guitar, Tommy Henriksen on bass while Michael Eurich handled the drums. I found it interesting to learn that there were also three guest drummers on the release that included the late great Cozy Powell (a personal favorite player), Rich Richman and Sterling Campbell. The latter two I am unfamiliar with any work from across my Metal mainframe. Bolan and Henricksen would add an American Metal flair to the previously full German based band that was found delivering “True As Steel” (the preceding album). Some of the Metal fans that were more “in the know” about what was happening elsewhere in the world got into them care of that album but as I’ve said for the larger side its “Triumph and Agony” all the way. Though my copy of the original is a long unsolved mystery in terms of its location, I do have a copy of this on CD which allows me to blast it at maximum volume once more for its anniversary. I still enjoy the whole release, but like most albums there are some songs that I absolutely love from the session. Let’s take a look at the full track listing down below from the original album. The Details: Doro Pesch is truly a Metal Queen and for more than thirty years she has been delivering the goods with her bands. We all learned of her from Germany’s Warlock and this tour is a special one as it celebrates the 30th Anniversary of that bands “Triumph and Agony” album. I understand that Doro will be delivering this release in full during her shows along with numerous other hits and having seen her so many times can say that you don’t want to miss this gig at B.B. King Blues Club. With that being said I am honored to announce that thanks to the fine folks in Marketing that some lucky PiercingMetal readers will be seeing this show for free. Check out the details on how to participate.
When and Where: Sunday, September 9th @ B.B. King Blues Club (237 West 42nd St., NYC)
To Participate: I’ve decided to keep this an easy one and by saying that I mean I will be sticking to my usual formula of you readers giving me “3” things that you like most about the band if you have heard them already and if you are a newbie just give me “3” things that you are most interested in about their performance. Perhaps there are albums that “spoke” to you or concert appearances that sent you to the music shop to snag some of the band members earlier works. Just give me three solid answers and how important it is to be at this show. I know I make you work but I work here too so whining will not win out at all LOL. Make this good reading because the stuff remains on the website and can likely inspire new fans as well on how our freebies work. Plus I think Doro herself will be looking at this contest and you ALWAYS want to impress such a legendary figure. Writing “because they rock dude” is just too un-original and boring. I’ll be responding to the comments that I like most right below their answer. Kindly review some guidelines before entering your submission. Continue reading Win A Ticket To See Doro @ B.B.
