“Free Comic Book Day” is currently underway and I was on point at my local retailer of Galaxy Comics in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn nice and early to take advantage of the titles being offered before any of them ran out of the supply. Let’s head inside and start browsing and making some critical choices of what to fill our bag with.
Last month I did a quick overview of the titles that interested me the most and if you feel like checking that summary out just click HERE. Fortunately all of the issues that I wanted and then some were available. Let’s examine in visual together, I will not be saying much along the way.
Back in July, in the days post the Comic Con International: San Diego, I shared what amounted to the first “teaser” trailer for the upcoming season of the hit BBC Science Fiction series “Doctor Who”. As it was a brief tease, I looked forward to a longer and more proper one which did surface only days ago. The series will premiere around the NY Comic Con and will very likely be a hot topic of discussion because of its changing the gender of The Doctor. Take a look.
It feels like forever ago that I shared the news about the 11th Doctor coming to the hit Science Fiction series “Doctor Who” and if you somehow missed that narrative since I post a lot of stuff all the time just click HERE to check it out. I hope you clicked the link because this was a pretty big deal for the franchise. Now thanks to the reveals at the recent Comic Con International: San Diego, we are getting the first trailer for the new season. Take a look.
As we are a few weeks away from the 2018 “Free Comic Book Day”, I wanted to take a few minutes of your time to talk up some of the issues that most interested me. Now I pretty much lean towards the superhero and science fiction titles if anything but as I glanced at the numerous free provisions that will be out there on that first Saturday in May, noticed some others that were a definite curiosity. I’ve snagged the images from the Official FCDB Website but if you want a deeper overview of what each title is about you should click over to them care of THIS LINK. My plan for this narrative is to group the issues into the “Must Have”, “Would Like To Have” and are “Somewhat Curious” about. Let’s go.
MUST HAVE: My must have list is always the longest but that is depending on how many of the titles focus on superheroes that I enjoy each month. Some of these issues didn’t have the final cover art available when I downloaded but the list below is pretty straight forward so I don’t need to add much more to the mix.
While it was surely big news about the long anticipated “Game Of Thrones” return in terms of Sunday’s television talking topics, there was some other important stuff going on as well as far as geekdom is concerned. You see, Sunday was also the day that the BBC Television Network introduced the 13th Doctor for their long-running cult series “Doctor Who”. You can see the introduction clip below which I have embedded from the BBC Channel and if the news is still not on your radar – there have been some changes to the dynamic.
Mind-blowing right? The first ever female Doctor since the series began. You can almost feel the ripples across the galaxy with this happening. Though I’ve not really followed “Doctor Who” as a “thing” in my own geek interests, I have scores of friends who have watched it for many years. It’s popularity amazes me (but in a good way of course) and I’ve noticed it to be something that you are either into or are not into. The fans that have been watching it over the years are rabid about it and by the way the series has been on TV since 1963. Here is a rundown of the Doctors across history and who played them along with for how long the role was performed. Continue reading Introducing The BBC’s “Doctor Who” 13th Doctor!!!→
