As you know, we’ve been discussing the film “SHAZAM!” for a few months now and today is the day that the Warner Brothers Pictures film gets released in theaters everywhere. Initially I was on the fence about this one, but the latest trailer (seen HERE) has found me being more open to the film. Let’s review the poster, premise and casting once more.
The Synopsis: Two years after Steppenwolf’s invasion, Billy Batson, a troubled 14-year-old orphan living in Philadelphia, is set up to move into a new foster home – his seventh in a row – with the Vazquez family and their other five foster kids in Fawcett City. One day, Billy gets on a subway car and finds himself transported to a different realm where an ancient wizard gives him the power to transform into a godlike adult superhero by uttering the word “Shazam!” Billy and his new foster brother Freddy Freeman must learn what Billy’s new powers are and how to use them in order to stop the villain Dr. Thaddeus Sivana from nefarious acts, with powers of his own. Today is the day my friends as its time for us to go higher, further and faster with the mighty Captain Marvel who makes her grand debut as a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe for the very first time. The film is opening up today in theaters everywhere but first let’s revisit some of the posts that were done in support of the release. Last month, Marvel Comics unleashed a crop of one dollar comics, their “True Believers” line which all featured her and you might still be able to get most of them if you ask your local retailer about them. Make a checklist from the post found HERE. I also showcased some Promotional Posters and a Special Look Trailer so click those italicized words to see the posts. Below you will find the Official Theatrical Poster, premise and casting. I’ve spiced it up by adding some other posters as well before my closing thoughts.
The Premise: Set in the mid-1990s, Captain Marvel follows Carol Danvers, a former U.S. Air Force fighter pilot, as she turns into one of the galaxy’s mightiest heroes and joins Starforce, an elite Kree military team, before returning home with new questions about her past and identity when the Earth is caught in the center of an intergalactic conflict between two alien worlds.
