Just in case you might have forgotten, today is “Free Comic Book Day” and this is the once a year event that takes place on the first Saturday in May at participating comic book retailers. It’s a wonderful day for fans of the medium, and its name pretty much describes what happens and its the chance to get a nice stack of free comic books. I’ve been supporting this initiative for a few years now and cannot wait to head over to my local retailer. Here are some of the items that I am interested in getting copies of. The art and premise were all culled from the Official FCBD website which I’ve linked below for your own assistance. Here we go.
Avengers/Captain America: Free Comic Book Day 2018 is your perfect chance to dive into the Marvel Universe! With a story from Jason Aaron and art by Sara Pichelli, Marvel’s FCBD title debuting this May features stories that set the stage for an epic new direction in the Marvel Universe. Today is the “Free Comic Book Day” for 2017 and there are a whole lot of awesome titles to secure for absolutely nothing. I hit my neighborhood shop Galaxy Comics in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn a short time ago and rushed back to showcase images of what is out there and that you should still be able to find providing you act fast. Here we go.
As we go through the stuff that I observed at today’s FCBD, I figured I would speak up on a few of them as the visuals go by but I will admit that I didn’t know every single title that was available today. This wouldn’t be a problem with the two offerings by Marvel and their “Guardians” title and the “Secret Empire” one. Each of these has a second story for fans to enjoy. Never a bad thing.
Not only is the excitement rising for “GOTG” since their film opened yesterday but also for “Wonder Woman” whose feature comes early next month. This Valiant Comics offering gives two tales which appears to be a common thread on this years FCBD
Since next Saturday is the 2017 “Free Comic Book Day”, I’ve culled together a presentation of some of the titles that I am hoping to snag at my participating retailer. I figured since their is one more New Comic Wednesday between now and then, that it would be a good idea to showcase a few titles so you can make sure the place where you purchase your own titles will have them if they are participating in “Free Comic Book Day” at all. If they are not, I suggest that you use this time to peruse the official website of the event to find a store close to you that does. The information comes straight from each companies press items along with the images so let’s get on down to it.

When I went to the local comic book shop to check out the new titles for the week, I took notice of the racks of action figures and saw that a few new characters in the “DC Superhero Girls” line was now available. Considering that I think this is a fantastic idea to get more girls into the comics and action figures as a whole, I felt sharing the images of the items was a good idea since we are rapidly approaching the gifting season. Thanksgiving is now around the corner and before you blink it will be Christmas and Chanukah and I want you ready to get some heroic goodness out to the ones you love.
I actually saw my first glimpse of this action figure line by Mattel when I visited the Play Fair portion of the American International Toy Fair earlier this year. My overview of that specific aspect can be examined on my PiercingKen.com site with THIS LINK so do please check it out. Now since these were on the racks I could only get this kind of photo but they are nice and clear and very legible. I don’t think that I need to name the characters since so many are instantly identifiable as well. Each figure is about 6″ tall and comes with an accessory of some sort. Here we go.
Today was the first Saturday in May and that is a great day for fans of the comic book medium because its “Free Comic Book Day” and that means that participating retailers give their loyal customers a batch of comic books for nothing. I headed to my neighborhood comic shop of Galaxy Comics to see what was going on and it was nice to see the patrons picking up additional titles along with the free ones. Take a look at the shop from the entrance.
I snagged photos of some of the titles that were on the shelves for the sake of this post. There was a lot of great stuff for the taking that’s for sure. Every shop that participates does this differently and some places have a better selection than others but I am happy to report that the folks at Galaxy are on top of their game and have a whole lot for their patrons to choose from. Take a look at a few.
