Read it again! Image Comics/Skybound Entertainment will revisit the historic independent series that took the entertainment world by storm 17 years ago—The Walking Dead by Robert Kirkman (Fire Power, Oblivion Song) and Charlie Adlard (Vampire State Building)—with newly, fully colored issues. Featuring the stunning work of the masterful Dave McCaig, these new issues will launch in October with The Walking Dead Deluxe #1. Kirkman first announced the fully colored issues during Skybound Xpo, Skybound’s virtual pop-culture convention, earlier today.
Last July, the folks at Image Comics hit their long-time readers of “The Walking Dead” with a baseball bat as they revealed on the day of release that issue #193 would be the final issue of the long-running series. We discussed that shocking news HERE for those who might just be joining us here on the website, and this leads us to some awesome news about a special edition one-shot coming this July.

PiercingMetal Thoughts: As I noted earlier today, I’ve only actually read a couple of the compendium editions myself as I was too late to catch up on the individual issues for an affordable price when it came to the earliest ones. I learned this was ending via the grapevine and made sure to purchase a copy at my local shop when I learned that some where still available once I finished seeing “Spider-Man: Far From Home”. This truly came out of nowhere and will cause the fanatics some heartache as they seek a first printing of the mega-popular series. Did you readers snag one or are you stuck waiting on the second printing that will be available on Monday. Chime in down below.
Shortly before I had to get myself into the matinee to see “Spider-Man: Far From Home”, the email came that announced that today the blockbuster comic book series “The Walking Dead” was ending with issue #163. Check out the press release and some statements down below.
The Press Release:
Image/Skybound’s long-running series THE WALKING DEAD by Robert Kirkman and Charlie Adlard has come to its conclusion with today’s #193 issue. This final chapter in the pop culture phenomenon was hinted at by the events of issue THE WALKING DEAD #192 and, according to Kirkman’s farewell letter at the end of the issue, has been planned and a longtime coming.
“I’ll say it again, I love (loved… oh, god, I’m not ready for past tense) writing this series. I really don’t want it to end. In fact, I’ve been… kind of unsettled since I wrote the script for this issue. The whole thing just feels… weird,” Kirkman wrote in the letter. “In a way, killing this series has been a lot like killing a major character. Much, much harder… but the same feeling. I don’t WANT to do it. I’d rather keep going… but the story is telling me what it wants and what it needs. This needs to happen. Whether I want it or not.” Continue reading Released Today: Image Comics “The Walking Dead” #193 – The Final Issue!!!→
