The next chapter in the “Star Trek” mythology begins tonight on CBS with the season premiere of “Star Trek: Discovery”. I’ve shared some trailers and posters here before and if you’ve not seen any of those yet just click on THIS LINK to open up a run of them. After tonight’s premiere the show heads to the CBS All Access service and to generate more excitement here are the official poster along with some reminder of premise and cast. I’ll close us out with some added thoughts.
The Premise: Set roughly ten years before the events of the original Star Trek, the series follows the crew of the USS Discovery as they discover new worlds and civilizations, while exploring the franchise’s signature contemporary themes. The season-long storyline revolves around “an incident and an event in Star Trek history that’s been talked about but never been explored”. Fans of the crime-drama “Person Of Interest” might want to double check their DVR programming to ensure that the show is prepped to record because later on tonight the final seasons premiere episode airs on the CBS network. Check your local listings in case you live in more remote areas where its on something else.
The Premise: Person of Interest is an American science fiction crime drama television series created by Jonathan Nolan that premiered on September 22, 2011, on CBS. It is produced by Nolan, alongside J.J. Abrams, Bryan Burk, and Greg Plageman. It centers on John Reese (Jim Caviezel), a presumed-dead former CIA agent who is hired by a mysterious billionaire named Harold Finch (Michael Emerson), to prevent impending violent crimes predicted by the Machine, a mass-surveillance computer system that relays the identity of a single person predicted to be the crime victim or perpetrator. Their efforts to covertly infiltrate the lives of their targets and mete out their particular brand of justice attracts the attention of two NYPD officers: Jocelyn “Joss” Carter (Taraji P. Henson) and Lionel Fusco (Kevin Chapman), both of whom Reese uses to his advantage during his investigations. Reese and Finch are later aided by Samantha “Root” Groves (Amy Acker), a highly intelligent computer hacker and contract killer whom the Machine later designates as its “analog interface” with administrative access, and Sameen Shaw (Sarah Shahi), a former ISA assassin who dealt with the “relevant” (terrorism-related) targets unknowingly fed to her by the Machine.
PiercingMetal Thoughts: I realize this isn’t one of the usual “On Screen” posts since its not superhero related but I haven’t missed a single episode of “Person Of Interest” since it premiered and have to say that I will miss this show very much when it goes away at the end of this half-season. My main “C.S.I.” ended months ago leaving me only with “C.S.I. Cyber” which I don’t think is going to continue for much longer and while the procedural shows can wear you down with their heaviness, there are some that are much better than others. I’d be sure to program that stuff in if you enjoyed this like I did because the final episode airs in the first weeks of June meaning they will be doubling up the show either in a row or during the week and I know you want to see how this all plays out. Do you watch this show like I do? If so let me know your thoughts in the comments section.
Please don’t poke yourself with something sharp as you are NOT imagining things. The band Ghost will indeed be performing live on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” and you know you want to set your DVR’s for this momentous occasion as NYC’s newest Late Night show offering brings the bands macabre message to the masses just in time for Halloween. The poster for this is also on the amaze balls side so check this out as well.
PiercingMetal Thoughts: I think this is fantastic news to be quite honest and am awed by the rapid climb that Ghost has made as a band across the fans of Heavy Metal and Hard Rock music over the last few years. Their presentation is surely strong and their music is solid enough for a wider audience to sink their teeth into and offer up homage to their Dark Master. The question remains will Papa Emeritus III be all decked out in his clerical raiments or will he be more like we saw during their brief acoustic set that was documented on PiercingMetal on THIS LINK. I guess we will have to tune in to see for ourselves but overall this is a pretty cool thing to find happening. I do wish it was also giving us a lengthier show like we used to find happening with the “Live On Letterman” Internet broadcasts. What do you all think about this one? Will you be staying up a little later to watch it as it happens or setting your DVR or maybe even foolishly bypassing it altogether. Let me know as it always interests me. Oh yes and I don’t actually know how to get tickets for this show yet but it should work the same as Letterman used to by clicking around their link to vie for tickets and perhaps Ghost has even been given some access so hit their official site or Facebook to know more. Good luck if you try.
UPDATE: As the show aired and has begun streaming the clip on their Official YouTube Channel, I am embedding the song “Cirice” which was performed live in front of the NYC Flock
