I can honestly say that after having “The Glorious Burden” CD in my stereo for some time now that this was a show I was totally looking forward to. B.B. Kings Club had been sold out for this particular event for over two months. The reaction was almost immediate when the show that was to feature Iced Earth, Children Of Bodom and Evergrey was announced and tickets made available. Surely this was a night full of killer music. Iced Earth would be returning with Tim “Ripper” Owens formerly of Judas Priest at the microphone and for those who have heard the CD, you just knew this was going to be good. As luck would have it, prior to the performance I was going to be able to meet Tim Owens backstage to run a few questions by him. I jumped at the chance since this is not so easily done. When I caught up with Tim backstage before the soundcheck I found him to be quite friendly and very enthused about the soon to be performed show. I was told also that Jon Schaffer was very ill and had not been doing good all day. He was plagued with a stomach virus of some kind. The interview is featured at the bottom of this review.

Artist: Ed Guy
Venue: B.B. Kings Blues Club (New York, NY)
Date: 9/15/2004
Opener: Tad Morose
Label: Nuclear Blast Records

Ed Guy, probably the most energetic force in the world of power metal today made their very first visit to New York City before they were set to play the Prog Power USA show in Georgia. Their opener would be Sweden’s own Tad Morose. Each band supporting their most recent release, Ed Guy’s “Hellfire Club” and Tad Morose “Modus Vivendi”. The venue would be The B.B. King Blues Club once again (and I have noticed a large amount of metal acts coming here of late). This venue in my opinion while very stylish and well-known is not truly the setting for a good metal show. I find the bands often getting lost in the PA system or things are just missing overall. There are venues I prefer to see metal shows more than this one, but you have to go where they play when it comes right down to it. I view it as at least the bands are hitting NYC in some fashion.

Amorphis @ B.B. King Blues Club (3/20/2005)

Artist: Amorphis
Venue: B.B. King Blues Club – NYC
Opener: Into Eternity, Beyond The Embrace
Label: Nuclear Blast Records
Date: 3-20-2005

Finnish legends Amorphis returned to New York City for one show to support their latest release entitled “Far From The Sun”. This release on Nuclear Blast Records finds the band with a new lead singer and an entirely different approach to their brand of metal. When one looks at band tour schedules, you will see that B.B. King Blues Club seems to be getting every single metal act that is on the road. It’s pretty interesting touring nowadays. I think I have been to this venue over a dozen times to cover shows and it does not seem to have a slow down yet. Always a good thing to have one venue at least you can trust to bring you the latest and greatest in Heavy Metal performances.
