The mighty Johan Hegg of Amon Amarth will spin crushing tracks off of their upcoming release “Jomsviking” at Saint Vitus Bar along with other selections that make this Metal giant a very happy man. The other night I had the chance to be one of the members of the NYC music press in attendance for a special preview of Black Label Society’s upcoming “Unblackened” CD, DVD and Blu-ray release. The special event was for select members of the press and Eagle Rock Entertainment and eOne Entertainment staff and it would be moderated by Guitar World magazines Brad Tolinski. We needed a moderator present because the NJ Berzerker himself, Mr. Zakk Wylde would be in attendance to field questions for us. To read more about the experience and to enjoy a gallery of photos I snagged just click the logo below. I opted to use the ZW one instead of BLS since he was the only member of the band in attendance.
I’ve been enjoying watching the steady climb to the stratosphere that the Black Veil Brides have been on for the last couple of years. While I was initially a latecomer to their debut when it first came out on StandBy Records, I became a quick and supportive study as they began making more regular appearances in my neck of the woods. I’ve since seen them in concert three times and have enjoyed every gig so that made it exciting to be one of the members of attending press at the advance listen to their latest release “Wretched And Divine” which would be held at the offices of Universal Music in Manhattan. You can read more about the experience by clicking the bands logo below, but then come back here for some side opinion and thoughts.
Artist: Metalocalypse: Dethklok Venue: Fontana’s (New York, NY) Event: “The Dethalbum” CD Listening Party Date: 9/25/2007 Label: Williams Street Records
Cartoon Networks Adult Swim show “Metalocalypse” has become quite the sensation among Metal fans everywhere and week after week we find the fan base of the show growing stronger. Perhaps this is due to the fact that the main characters of the band Dethklok are so much larger than life and the situations that they find themselves so incredibly outrageous. Well, what sort of normal adventures would you actually expect to find an animated Death Metal band taking part in anyway? The show was created by Brendon Small and Tommy Blacha, and based on its overall popularity they would release a full CD of music and the first season of episodes would be compiled on DVD for the world to enjoy. In celebration of this momentous occasion – a listening party would be held deep inside New York City’s Chinatown at a cool bar called Fontana’s. The event would be hosted by The Onion, which is a parody newspaper that I think many would enjoy taking a look at if they have not done so already. As my guest and I ventured deeper into this interesting club I mused at how perfect it was for such a gathering. In the front there is a decent sized bar that had some nice screens to see whatever they decided to broadcast and the back was a lounge area that was really quite large as far as the overall space was concerned. You could sit at the tables or play a little pool which is what some of the guests tonight were doing as “Metalocalypse: The Dethalbum” blasted over the speakers. There was even a small upstairs loft which seemed suitable for VIP seating if such a thing was ever necessary and downstairs offered a space for bands to perform. I will definitely be looking into other goings on at this place in the future. Continue reading PiercingMetal Goes To “The Dethalbum” CD Listening Party→
Artist: Meshuggah Title: “Catch Thirty-Three” – Listening Party Venue: CBGB’s Gallery (New York, NY) Label: Nuclear Blast Records Date: 4/1/2005 Genre: Technical Death Metal
Once again I trekked down to the Bowery for the famed CBGB’s Club. Actually we were downstairs in the roomy lounge of the adjacent building in a space known as the CBGB’s Gallery. This atmosphere is more suited to a party like this since you are out to network with the band and enjoy their latest work. The reason for the trip this evening was to meet a couple of the guys in the one and only “Meshuggah”. The band had come to town to give the Media a sneak listen on their latest effort entitled “Catch Thirty Three”. It was great to be included in the festivities like this, since getting to talk to the Artist before an actual release can be a special thing and assist in getting the word out on it. Nuclear Blast Records was in full presence as reps from the label entertained folks like my colleague Pete Pardo (from www.SeaOfTranquility.org) and many others. It’s pretty cool that the label does this kind of thing and also that they picked this particular venue to showcase the album. Recently, CBGB’s has been in the news over their fight with the owners of the building over unpaid rent and it looks like the doors may soon close on the birthplace of Punk Rock. It’s a landmark club whether you love it or hate it, and a lot of memorable music has come from it so I hope it gets resolved to a positive fashion.
