So according to pretty much every music website and blog on the planet right now, the rumors indeed seem true and apparently singer Scott Weiland has been fired by the other members of the Stone Temple Pilots. Clearly this news is going to generate more Internet “he said, she said” than the Dream Theater, Queensryche and Slayer camps combined.
I’ve always found the bands first two albums to be guilty pleasures of mine but really stopped following them after “Purple” and had only thought of them again recently with the cool “Alive In The Windy City” DVD. It was loaded with the songs I loved so it was an easily enjoyable release for me. Of course I have never seen the band in person live and would have liked to with the original configuration and now that seems unlikely.
Weiland’s statement reads “I learned of my supposed “termination” from Stone Temple Pilots this morning by reading about it in the press. Not sure how I can be “terminated” from a band that I founded, fronted and co-wrote many of its biggest hits, but that’s something for the lawyers to figure out. In the meantime, I’m looking forward to seeing all of my fans on my solo tour which starts this Friday.”
So what do you readers think about this or do you even care? Oh yes, the few images you see here are from Scott’s not too long ago headlining show where he played his “Greatest Hits” and there didn’t seem to be a hit in the set. I honestly had more fun rocking with my friends that night than with the performance so let’s see if he changes my opinion on this next run. During this go round he is supposed to be playing the entire “Core” and “Purple” albums so I hope he sticks to the advertised program.
I’m sorry for seeming curt in the news if this little bit of information truly breaks your heart. It has been a busy few weeks in band divorces and I am honestly getting a little tired of them. Just play your music and get along with each other for the fans that keep you working. It should be as simple as that even though it isn’t.
Let the Internet flame wars between both sides (and maybe from the Velvet Revolver side as well) commence. Let me know what this “divorce” means to you in the comments section as I would love to hear them.
