It feels like forever ago that I gave you readers an overview of the “Diary Of A Creep” EP that New Years Day had released this past February and if you didn’t see that review please click HERE to be on point with me. It was a covers album with one new song, and I did enjoy it. Fast forward to now, the band is on the road with In This Moment and Halestorm and they will be hitting New York’s Hammerstein Ballroom in a couple of weeks. As no new album is ready to dish out to fans, they’ve teased us with a brand-new single in “Skeletons” which comes at us digitally and under the Red Music banner. I launched the track on Spotify to give you some thoughts about it. Here we go.
Starting off with a solemn piano intro, the crunching groove quickly takes over and then Miss Ash Costello opens it up with some awesome vocal ability. I enjoy her register and for those who are just discovering them, she sings clean throughout almost all of their material. Though I’ve seen the band a few times I still consider myself a bit of a newbie to them since its not been often enough. There are some peaks and valleys to this one in terms of tempo and the vibe of the song is their wanting to see inside your deepest secrets, hence the skeletons in the closet. I’m sure such secrets would be safe in Costello’s hands as she seems very supportive of her fans. It’s a nicely paced tune and will only take 3.5 minutes out of your day and the important thing is the fact that it’s catchy. I found myself singing along with the chorus very quickly and that’s never a bad thing. I’ll close this by saying that I also loved the artwork of the single with the neon sign logo of the bands name and the slightly “Alas Poor Yorick” photo of Ash 😊
Hopefully the next time I’ll be discussing them with you is for how they did as the opening act on this tour. Let’s see what happens.
