Artist: Lita Ford w Cherie Currie
Title: “Rock This Christmas Down” (Single)
Release Date: 12/3/2013
Genre: Holiday Hard Rock
Though this one was released way back in 2013 (which is a lifetime ago to some of you), it was brand new to me when I was digging around for Christmas tunes as delivered by some Hard Rock and Metal notables. When I saw that “Rock This Christmas Down” was a collaboration by former members of The Runaways, Lita Ford and Cherie Currie, I just had to add it to the context of our presentations and offer up some thoughts about it. The song is a slow building rocker that comes care of SPV/Steamhammer the current label of Ms Ford.
The pair share the lead vocal parts and there are sections where its more of a talk through sort of track Musically its solid enough and I enjoyed the use of bells at the intro. Lyrically the ladies seem to be lining out how “bad” they both used to be and as result were going to “Rock This Christmas Down”. The mid-tempo vibe of the overall song found me thinking that the chorus should have been a little heavier as opposed to the pair singing softer. At the end of the day I think the two were just looking to have a little holiday fun and there isn’t anything wrong with that. I don’t know if Lita has delivered this one live in concert since I’ve never caught here during that season, but I think that she should. Imagine how special it would be if Currie joined her at such gigs to do this one, although it would be more fun to see them doing Runaways material. Now back to the holiday preparation and I hope you have all your gifts ready.
