While the world might be on hold in terms of proper film releases, the folks that make the toys that often accompany a release are keeping hard at work with the products to come and have begun doing their reveals and even some releases just in time for the holiday season. We’ve just completed a very fun virtual event held by the fine folks at The Toy Insider with their “Holiday Of Play” happening and one of the awesome reveals came from Playmates Toys with some figures for the upcoming “Godzilla vs Kong” film. Some of you might remember that this film was supposed to come out this past summer but the Coronavirus Pandemic pushed it back like so many other things. It will arrive next year now and my hope is that it will be on the big screen and not via my Playstation or Roku device. The images below come from Playmates Toys themselves and they are pretty straightforward. Let’s look and discuss
First up we have the 6” Godzilla figure and he is shooting a beam of that radioactive fire he is so famously known for. The package above looks very nice and as you can see by the out of package image he is poseable in as much as a creature like Godzilla might be. I will assume that the mouth and tail have some poseable nature but don’t quote me since I am not looking at a physical product here. There is also some “Battle Damage” which is pretty cool. Now onto the mighty Kong.
Presented for your approval is the 6” Kong figure and he is sporting a weapon of his own with a battle axe. From the photo I cannot discern what it could be constructed from but if he does this in the film I am sure we will find out. Kong appears to be a bit more articulated that Godzilla so the Big G will have his fight cut out for him for sure when it comes to your own epic play or just how you display the pair of them on your showcasing area. Much like Godzilla, Kong also has some battle damage feature for you to use and declare your winner a little easier. Pretty cool right? I think so.
Next up we have the larger sized figures of both of the main event Kaiju and these stand at 11″ apiece. We only got a packaged set of images but they do the trick and these look wonderful as well. Godzilla appears to be in a similar pose to the small one but Kong is slightly different and also has a different expression. The articulation appears to be less than on the smaller figures and that might be a good thing if you are purchasing these two for a younger fan or collector. I say it like this since some of my friends with the wee ones prefer the Marvel superheroes figures that have four or six points of articulation and stand 12” tall as opposed to the 6”-8” tall Marvel Legends ones that I sometimes collect for myself. Either way, I love both sizes of these “Godzilla Vs. Kong” reveals and cannot wait for more of the monsters that are sure to be in the film coming to life for the toy shelf.
PiercingMetal Thoughts: Though I didn’t get any sort of price point for these items with the images I did check with some online retailers and found these to be very affordable. The smaller figures run around $10 each while the larger ones are just under $20. To me that’s a steal because you cannot own one without the other. If you only bought one, you couldn’t do your best Dr. Serizawa impersation and say “Let Them Fight”. What do you readers and fans of these kinds of movies think about them?
