New York City is a vibrant place that is loaded with things to do and people to meet. There is literally always something amazing going on and no matter where you go to whatever it might be you will meet actors, musicians, photographers, writers and much, much more. It’s pretty cool if you ask me and that brings me to this particular blog posting. Not long ago I met the publisher of an independent paper called “The Passenger” and it was through this connection that I was invited to The Great Frog NYC this evening. Check it out…..
The Great Frog is a jewelery shop that specializes in hand made crafts and are known not only for the awesome skull rings that they sell but also that they made some stuff that was worn by Lady Gaga. That has to be cool especially if the artist actually makes mention that they got it from the place. So why was I here? Was I in the market for a new and shiny skull ring? Well, I do want one but right now there is insufficient funds in the coffers for any extraneous purchasing so many another time. Tonight’s fun would be based on “The Passengers” Valeria Likhova doing a showcase for photographer David Carlo’s work.
I’m going to limit the narratives in this piece and let the images do most of the talking, and since we were surrounded by these cool trinkets, let’s examine some of them now. That is really a bad ass skull if you ask me.
Here’s the brains behind “The Passenger”, Miss Valeria Likhova. Hello Valeria, thanks for inviting us to the soiree this evening. We are happy to be here.
Since this was a function held by “The Passenger” it was only right to showcase the most recent issue. Yes my dear technophiles, “The Passenger” is printed on paper. Remember that stuff? It’s how we used to do things around the media world. It’s a pretty cool looking paper, and very large when opened. I’ve got their link down below at the end of the posting for you to click. I wonder if they need a little photography from a certain someone (uh oh, pretend you didn’t hear that, I meant to say that with my inside Ken’s head voice).
Some great photographs of a stunning model sporting The Great Frog rings and stuff. I am sorry but I did not catch her name. She was not present at the event and is over in Europe to my knowledge.
Here is David Carlo, he is the reason for the function this evening. Nice guy, and some really cool photographs on display.
Here is some more coolness from The Great Frog NYC….
Our lovely DJ was slamming out the tunes with her laptop, a mixer and an iPod. She was awesome and playing a lot of cool stuff. She played some old KISS and Sweet for me as well.
She also had us laughing based on her trying to do all this stuff with a set of freshly done nails.
Let’s get back to scanning some more of the coolness.
“Slayer Under Glass?”
Are you the ultimate Slayer fan? If you answered “yes” then you best get yourself one of these rings.
It wouldn’t be a party without some cold beers now would it…..
Don’t mind our servers expression. I asked her to give me a look of exasperation. She had wit to her.
Here is another shot of David and Valeria and you get an idea of just how the shop looks as well. It’s not a big space, but good enough for that they are presenting to the public.
Some Great Frog stickers on a snare drum. I took a couple since that is what they were there for.
This definitely wins the award for most unique use for an old bass drum that I ever saw.
“Behold” the musical command console for the event. I might have to give something like this a try because I have the gear and an extraordinary music collection thanks to my own purchases and from being a music journalist. It sure seems like fun.
This lovely lass modeled a helmet for me and was rather charming to speak to.
So I asked her to send our piece off with a quick toss of the horns. Which she did.
That being said this was a very different kind of night and yes I know there are no photos of me. Skeleton Pete was with me and said I made too many “crazy Metal faces” to use. I do admit that I was “enjoying myself” a little too much at the end thanks to the beverages so I am good with that. You can learn more about the folks in this posting by clicking the websites below. We hope you will take a look since there are some awesome things going on with them all. Enjoy.
PS: Going forward I think that I will be presenting this kind of story in my side blog PiercingKen.com because it falls more in line with the kind of adventures that I document over there. Yes we did the Fetty Launch party on PiercingMetal Musings, but that was done by a musician and he played that same night so it worked out perfectly. This was a little different and with that blog being a place to use I will do so when it seems the best route.
