Opening Today: “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” (5/2/2014)

It’s once again time to spin that web and swing around New York City with Peter Parker as “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” opens up in theaters nationwide today. Did you see “Amazing Spider-Man” when it opened in 2012? Did you enjoy it? Let’s discuss after digging into the poster.

Poster - The Amazing Spiderman 2 - 2014

Now I will admit that I was not 100% happy with the decision to reboot the film franchise based on the wealth of characters that Spider-Man has in his universe and felt that continuing along with a new actor would have worked out just as well. That being said I did enjoy the 2012 offering despite its changing of some of the character canon that I felt should have been left alone. Sorry for spoiling this but there is NO J. Jonah Jameson in the first film and he is in my humble opinion quintessential to the Spider-Man mythos. There also wasn’t a Mary Jane Watson character but perhaps she will show up in a later film somewhere. I liked the way they delivered us The Lizard but felt an additional villain would have made this all the more awesome. In the sequel we find our friendly neighborhood web head putting up his dukes against The Rhino, Electro (who is the principle villain in the film) and The Green Goblin.  That’s a lot of villains for one superhero to wrangle his way around but I think in the end Spidey will prevail.  Since I am not too sure anyone reading this has seen the depictions of the characters yet I will let you know that I think Electro is rather stupid looking to me but I guess on the other side of the coin no more stupid than a guy with a giant electricity bolt star on his mask might look.  We all know Rhino was a permanent hide graphed to its wearer (or do we) and in this case its a robotic suit.  I guess the latter makes more sense in today’s scientific world.  My only look at the Green Goblin was on a photograph on a media paper that I saw during Toy Fair so I will reserve judgement on him.  What are your thoughts or hopes for this film?  Are you sticking with it or are you giving it up to wait for its eventual showing on Netflix or HBO.  Let me know so we can nerd out together a little bit more.  Okay that is all I have for this one.  From here on in I am counting down the days to “Godzilla” and “Guardians Of The Galaxy” – See you soon readers and now back to the regular presentations on the blog.
