“Cowabunga Dude”! It’s time to prepare your staff, sai, sword and nunchucks as the new live-action “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” film opens today. Check out the poster and the premise below and then we’ll chat about it a little bit.
The Premise: Darkness has settled over New York City as Shredder and The Foot Clan have an iron grip on everything from the police to the politicians. The future is grim until four unlikely outcast brothers rise from the sewers and discover their destiny as the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The Turtles must work with fearless reporter April O’Neil and her wise-cracking cameraman Vernon Fenwick to save the city and unravel Shredder’s diabolical plan. (cribbed from the film’s Wiki entry).
I’ve been a fan of the Teenage Mutant Nina Turtles since a few months after they first appeared in the Mirage Studios comics done by Eastman and Laird and have to say that I am happy that we are getting another film for these characters. Perhaps you remember the one that came out in 1990 (its been on DVD since its original release along with the films that followed it); Anyway, I liked that film but felt the sequels left me for want and got a little too campy. The new film looks action packed with a nice dose of humor as well. Of course, I do admit a little surprise with how they keep referring to it as only “Ninja Turtles” on the commercials. I mean, the whole title is there on the poster and its actually what they are so why not leave well enough alone. Let’s see what happens in this Michael Bay production. Here is the cast.
Pete Ploszek as Leonardo
Johnny Knoxville as the voice of Leonardo
Alan Ritchson as Raphael
Noel Fisher as Michelangelo
Jeremy Howard as Donatello
Megan Fox as April O’Neil
William Fichtner as Eric Sachs
Tohoru Masamune as The Shredder

As I usually do, here is a link to the films official Wikipedia entry. I would not suggest opening it after the film opens unless you are not concerned about any spoiler information. What do you readers think? Will you be seeing the film?
