I don’t generally do any broadcasts about films of the Disney nature but the evil queen from the classic “Sleeping Beauty” fairytale is getting her own origin film and a live action one as well and that is a special occasion. Ladies and gentlemen, “Maleficent” opens today in theaters near you. Check out the poster.
Truth be told the visage of Maleficent always frightened me as a child and that was the effect that the folks at Disney wanted. She was mean, she had nothing good in her plans and it showcased well in the classic animated feature “Sleeping Beauty” which came out way back in 1959. I’ve copied the film’s basic premise below and thank its Wikipedia entry for the details.
Per Disney: “Maleficent explores the untold story of Disney’s most iconic villain from the 1959 classic Sleeping Beauty and the elements of her betrayal that ultimately turned her pure heart to stone. Driven by revenge and a fierce desire to protect the moors over which she presides, Maleficent cruelly places an irrevocable curse upon the human king’s newborn infant Aurora. As the child grows, Aurora is caught in the middle of the seething conflict between the forest kingdom she has grown to love and the human kingdom that holds her legacy. Maleficent realizes that Aurora may hold the key to peace in the land and is forced to take drastic actions that will change both worlds forever.”
The trailer sure looks interesting and I have to say that Jolie looks absolutely sinister in the Maleficent costume. Brrrr I am getting chills just thinking about this witch existing in the real world. Will you be seeing this film? I know that I would like to but I still need to see both “Godzilla” and “X-Men Days Of Future Past” first. Check out the cast for the film below.
