“When Captain America throws his mighty shield! All those who chose to oppose his shield must yield! If he’s led to a fight and a duel is due then the red and the white and the blue will come through when Captain America throws his mighty shield!!!!!
Such were the words of the song from the “Marvel Super-Heroes” cartoon show that aired way back in 1966 but I doubt that many of you would remember that depending on your actual vintage. Today is the day that “Captain America: The First Avenger” opens up to the masses and after seeing how good “Thor” was and having enjoyed both “Iron Man” and “The Incredible Hulk” I have very high hopes for what we shall get with Cap.
Before continuing I must apologize for my recollection of the Captain America segments from the long ago aired “Marvel Super Heroes” cartoon series. It was a minimally animated show that featured Cap along with four other classic heroes and while it was bare bones it was super cool at that age. That being said, I am also a lifelong comic collector and I have been so psyched about the batch of Marvel Comics live action films because they have been so damned good but I have already expressed this. As result, I am going to start using the PiercingMetal Blog’s category for “Movies and Television” a little more to offer these little “head’s up” pieces where I shall showcase these super hero films as they come out and offer up a little hope about them along with non-spoiler points. You might not know this but this is NOT the first time that the Star-Spangled Avenger has been on the big screen and yet despite this fact, the new film sounds to be more along the lines of what we know from the comics themselves. Needless to say I am excited about this one because its the last solo hero film before the long anticipated “The Avengers”. So what is “Captain America: The First Avenger” all about?
Well for starters its a period piece which was a smart idea because the hero was born out of the conflict of WWII (remember it was a super soldier formula after all) and he will be going head to head with the villany of The Red Skull who will be played by Hugo Weaving. I saw an advance photo of the Skull and he looks awesome. Cap’s uniform is not the updated modern stuff we should find him sporting in today’s time and since this takes place in the forties, he is pretty much seen in slightly modified combat fatigues. The commercials look exciting enough and for me all it needs to do is keep me as happy as Thor managed to do. There will obviously be some kind of bonus teaser scene at the end of the film so don’t be rushing to leave the theaters once the main film ends. You might recall that we have already found these with the Thor, Iron Man and Incredible Hulk films. Okay that is enough out of me. Here is the cast of players for the film, and it sure seems like a good one. I hope to see the film next week so if you comment please no spoilers. I would not do that to you after all. Suit up, it’s go time!!!

There are a lot of great Captain America tales to choose from and while I have lost track of the most current happenings in his title, I still can make some solid recommendations from when I was a more avid reader of his monthly adventures.
