Back in August, we shared what amounted to be the Final Trailer for the new Warner Brothers Pictures film “Joker” and if you didn’t see that post and our editorial thoughts just click HERE to be up to speed about it. This Warner Brothers Pictures feature opens today in theaters everywhere and stars Joaquin Phoenix as the title character. Let’s remind ourselves of the Theatrical Poster, some premise and the casting. I’ll even toss in an extra poster or two as I found some.
The Premise: In 1981, a failed stand-up comedian turns to a life of crime and chaos in Gotham City, slowly rising to become a frightening legend.
Joaquin Phoenix as Arthur Fleck/Joker
Robert De Niro as a talk show host
Zazie Beetz as Sophie Dumond
Bill Camp and Shea Whigham as a cops in the Gotham City Police Department
Frances Conroy as Penny Fleck
Brett Cullen as Thomas Wayne
Glenn Fleshler as a comedian
Dante Pereira-Olson as Bruce Wayne
Douglas Hodge as Alfred Pennyworth
Marc Maron as Ted Marco
Brian Tyree Henry as a nurse
Bryan Callen as a stripper
Josh Pais has been cast in an undisclosed role
PiercingMetal Thoughts: Despite the film only opening up today to the general public, this was shown during the recently held Venince International Film Awards where it was critically praised and received their “Golden Lion” award. This is apparently the highest honor that they dish out so maybe this is going to end up being something that the fans will rally behind. I had enjoyed the Final Trailer for sure and must admit to some surprise that the couple of weeks ago “Batman Day” was not more Joker themed. That would have made sense but we are not in the marketing meetings to suggest stuff. Now I still believe this is NOT a part of the connected DCEU of films and speaking frankly that is where the focus needs to return. Marvel made a connected universe work and so can DC with the stable of iconic characters they have. Now I should announce that I will NOT be able to see this film early in the run because it is Day Two of the massive New York Comic Con and we are once again attending as the press. This is going to keep me busy for days afterwards so perhaps next Wednesday I will give it a try. This all also depends on the initial critics whom I trust with such things opinion on it. I don’t usually listen and make my own assessment but there are some who’s voices I value above the rest. What do you readers think about this one? Will you be lining up nice and early or are you planning on waiting as well. Chime in down below and also let us know if you are attending the Con. Make sure to hit up our social networks to get your eyes on the event as we see it happening.
